Ok I'm new to 4 strokes so this is a general question. I understand we haven't seen the final clutching in the 08 Nytro. But in general most 2 strokes wake right up wilth a simple clutch kit. (possibly the best bang for the bunch on a 2 stroke) So I was just fielding the question towards modern 4 strokes in general. Will a clutch kit give much performance increase? Also with such a flat torque curve I'm looking to gain about 8 mph on the top end (if 105-108mph is top speed on the Nytro RTX)
Again I understand no one is for sure on the 08 Nytro RTX specificly but in general. Some of the sleds we will be racing against will reach speeds of very close to 110mph. We have to run stock exhaust as per rules.
If this is in the wrong section please let me know.
Thanks

It is very very hard to improve the top end with aftermarket clutching; in fact you will often lose top end but it is easy to get better acceleration. The stock weights have a very flat curve to match the torque/hp output of the motor. You can get some good gains by lowering the suspension & running a shorter lug track. I think the Nytro is geared a little short & some gains can be made by gearing it up. Won,t know for sure tho till I have my 08 Nytro in my hands & start playing with it plus you really won,t see it,s true potential until the motor has at least 1000 miles on it. The 4 stroke really really wakes up with more miles. Just when a 2 stroke starts to fade away & 4 stroke is just warming up.
Turk,
Thanks for the info. It looks like we will be getting a couple of Nytros next season.
I will be x-country racing this sled but rules are limited what we can do to the engine and exhaust.
Sucking down the rear suspension and running anything under a 1.25 track are kind of out of the question. I hope they are undergeared and we can gain some top speed with a simple gear change. If the 4 strokes respond like most 2 strokes with a good clutch kit then I'm all for it. It would be real nice to gain acceleration with a clutch kit and gain top speed with gearing on this new Nytro!
Towards the end of next season I will be making a 'crossover' sled out of one of them, with rail extensions and 136x1.75X16 track if it fits.

08NitroRtx.If the clutching is anything like 120 3 cylinders there is alot to be gained with clutching and getting more mph too. With just gearing and clutching.
