Just wondering what you guys think of MCB PErformance? They offer a Dalton clutch kit for the RX-1 and claim to get 3-5 sled lengths and more top end with it over stock. My sled is stock except I will be adding 144 Gold Diggers down the center.
I am generally an aggressive trail rider but do like to run across a lake wide open every now and again. Also I have a buddy who just bought a Rev 800 and want to see if some clutching will assure me a win against him everytime.
Who out there has had some reliable trailable results with clutching and are they willing to tell???
Are these kits worth buying? I had a Hauck kit in my Viper but didn't notice any difference.

Talk to Matt, he tested HH's against Dalton.
Hello, been reading some stuff here this morning and thought something should be clarified. "compared with dalton"..? compared with dalton what.?
I spoke with matt a couple weeks ago and he mentioned he had done some trak dynoing etc and that our DPY 57.5's worked well and that a few of these weights were all within 1 track hp of each other.I must admit I don't even know what other components were in the clutches,or whatever, but that is what he told me.
One thing is for sure, that Matt at the speed shop and Jeff Simon have a pretty good set up that they are selling for RX-1's ,They are both what I beleive to be quality people, and I'm sure what they sell, they stand behind and that it works well. They use HH in their kit that have always proven to be good flyweights, and the adjustability allows them to change the set up for all the variances out there that have given clutch kits a bad name from time to time. Hey ,I think that is great.I am a Canadian distributor for Heavy hitters as well, and have been for many years.I understand that they have had good success with their kit and I think it is great.
What I would like to dispell here is that with respect to RX-1's We seem to hear about a" DALTON KIT". I do know where it came from, and I'll explain. Early in 03 we did do a couple days of testing on the new rx-1,as it was a new model, and interest was high. Many people heard that we were doing some testing and were anxiously calling for results.I didn't have an RX ,but a friend did,and we had a couple other guys rounded up to test with who also had 121'' rx's. A bit of testing showed that we could easily make one of them faster than the others in the approx 1000' field we were testing in.Our general consensus was that it seemed about 4-5 lengths faster than the stock clutched one . Some others put those same components into thier machines, like TURK and JTSRX ,and confirmed that it was better. At the same time many dealers called and asked what we had found, and were purchasing whatever it was that we tested that day,as they wanted to try it themselves. Some of these dealers are still buying that same set up now and some have varied the combination to suit their needs more specifically.
The usual components were : DPY57.5's,Our black blue or black /silver primary spring,a Yamaha silver secondary spring, and one of our "R" helix variations, typically 52R46 or 54R46,etc.
This somehow got labelled as a "Dalton kit". Anyone that knows me or our company knows very well that we do not sell "KITS" for snowmobiles. And that with us you must ultimately choose your own part #s .At that time we still did do retail sales, and it is also fct that many retail customers did call and say"I want this Dalton kit"...and I can assure you that it was made clear to all that we do not sell kits, and explained that we did do some testing, and that these were components that many were buying and we ourselves had seen good results from, but it was ultimately their own descision as to which ones they wanted. Quite often we heard back" I want what the guys on the internet are using(which was somewhat varied).
I think at one point Jason(JTSRX) posted that when he put some of our components in ,he saw about 6-7 sled lengths better than stock. Some ,like Black John had great results using a different secondary spring than what I liked that day.Hey,these guys are tuners that dial in their sled to their liking, its all great to me
When we do initial testing on a new model like that..It is to develop a RANGE of components that help calibrate that model. At Daltonindustries,we specialize in manufacturing individual components for companies that DO build clutch kits, and for those that like to tune for specific applications. We supply components to many companies that do kits. These companies do not want or need us competing with them, and we do not now,or never did have any interest in doing so. We do however do a few case specific kits for atv's(eg: oversized tires) .In an ATV application that is always 700 lbs, with 30 hp..and you put 28" mudzillas on it,...it is a very consistant problem of upshifting too fast for the gearing and rotational mass of the tires, and we make a kit to correct the shift ratio. It is in kit form...it comes with complete instruction, and a money back guarantee. ...We do NO such kits for snowmobiles, and have no intention to do so.
Almost immediatly after we tested my friends RX-1 in stock form in 03,we pulled his engine and sent it to Freddie at ECP.It was Freddies first stage2 kit. Many on here have probably benefeited from Freddies experiance on this form.I have put a bit of time on this modded one and like it a lot.Clutching can vary widely on one that has been modified,as things like camshaft lift and duration,as well as cam and ignition timing can vary the required shift rpm.One thing is for sure, even with the mild job done by freddy on this one,it sure surprised many F-& and ZR9 owners.
I came on here this morning because I just purchased My own RX-1 ER for a demo this year. It is already torn apart and having cams ground for it,porting, etc. It will not be much relevant to a stock RX and the clutching I run in it will probably change all season as I experiment with mods, etc. If someone asks me what I'm running in it for clutching...i will tell them..will it be relevant to what they might be doing.?..probably not .who knows. ..will it continually change through out the season...almost guaranteed. I intend to play with many flyweight prototypes/curvatures ,etc to suit the needs of the cams we are having ground ,the available hp ,etc. Will it lead to more options available from Dalton for the Yamaha drive or driven clutch(or others)?..probably. If you are the type that like to do your OWN testing and tune your sled ,I hope to have even more options available for the RX this season.Any dealer in North America can have our products in 2 days for you.IF you ,for many reasons(time, money, etc) like to buy a pre packaged "kit",I TOTALLY understand that, and it is probably best to do so,and look for some that are respected by places like this forum or by doing research . Hopefully it can be one that uses our components,LOL,but there are many clutch products out there and anyone who tells you that there is only one way to do anything is probably blowing smoke up your buy as well.I certainly don't know everything, but I look forward to playing with my new toy.

I dont think that anyone was saying that you could only use HHs but they are what Majority on this site are using! Most,, NOT ALL,, of us on this site dont have a clue how to adjust clutch weights and springs etc.. Therefore we like BOLT ON setups!! Plug and play type kits..
Its awsome that you are on this site and im sure you will be a great help to those using dalton clutching!!

one thing that was no mentioned was the cost of the doltons components are a lot less than some others. some times 1/2 the cost for weights alone. i have been giving the mach Z boys fits here with clutching and jetting alone as well as running the same speeds on the radar gun as well. note that some of these guys have built moters and pipes as well. 119.2 mph on radar speaks for its self

Allen, thanks for clarifying. It should also be noted that the 3 weights were Supertips, Heavy Hitters and Daltons. IMO, you cant go wrong with any of these weights. If you guys are looking for some killer Dalton setups, contact allen at ulmerracing.com or black john. I believe allen has at least 20 guys out by him that he setup with the dalton weights and they are all very satisfyed. We will continue to share information with guys like allen because he is committed to finding the best gains possible and having guys like him who also share there findings are rare. This is just one reason why we choose to sponsor allen with his race efforts and always will. For me the bottom line is if your going to buy a kit, make sure you buy it from someone who can take care of you not only before the sale, but after.
Dale, welcome to the site. Its nice to finally have you here...BBY

Also worth mentioning is allens testing were all done on ECP filtered sleds.
Finally lets not forget who developed the Stage I, II and III kits for standard air box RX-1s, Jeff Simon at www.simonscpr.com , Jeff spent huge time developing these kits and all 3 work just fantastic. There are very big gains to be had by clutching your RX1 whether you running ECP filters or the stock intake system...BBY

Personally, I only use Dalton helixes. Their quality is excellent and they are all marked so you know what you are using. Currently I am using Heavy Hitters because I have them and I like there adjustability. I use Yamaha springs because there is a wide variety available and I have most of them. I'm not a kit guy because I prefer to test, test and test some more, until I get a combo I like for the moment. Lots of different setups can produce similar results. It all depends on what you are looking for in engagement, upshift, backshift, etc. Different conditons warrant different setups.
This is a great forum guys. I'm starting to get used to taking the heat, lol(me having a long personal cat background is sort of like Allen running an F-7,,lol)...My cat buddies are all giving me the 1 ton jokes and telling me how much fun this will be to be kicking my but,etc....they should know better than to laugh too much, lol.
My wife is asking me.."if this 4 stroke is what you bought me ,then why is it down a ray's(fundy powersports..my buddy with the dyno) ..all torn to peices.I intend to have a lot of fun with this machine, and want to have fun without any turbo ,etc.........for now.Dale

For anyone interested in a Dalton "kit" let me know. I currently have one set of weights on hand, primary springs, secondary springs, and helixes. This setup works well on both 03 & 04 RX-1's and I'm sure will work well on the 05's as well. When we get snow I will test it on my own 05. I also have this setup with a few adjustments working well with the ECP filters also.
Dale it's good to see you on the forum! Your product is top notch! Now how about you move a little closer so we could actually meet eachother once!

Hi dale,
After that first winter testing my rx1 on the lake every weekend we backed off a bit.to much work in the shop and other priorities.
however after trying endless combo's with primary weights but alway's your first rate helix's,your 57.5 and ground 62's still work the best .
we finally got some snow today so here we go !
regards,
paul kokke

Dale, welcome. I know you have probably been reading this forum for a while before you just couldn't help yourself from jumping in here
I did some testing for Dale the winter of 03 and 04. I must say he's is absolutely a top notch guy. He and his wife treated me wonderfully. I still use his helixes all the time and his weights from time to time. All Dalton components seem to have a higher standard of fit and finish than most other components I have personally ever seen.
The Dalton springs are so consistant (compared to stock springs) it's almost scary. Good work!
The one thing I would like to try would be a Dalton weight with an 8BU-00 profile that had threaded holes (or just holes) for adjustability. I still think if the 03 RX-1 had come with a Ripsaw track that the profile of our current RX-1 weights would lean more to the aggressive side of the house because the power could have been transfered to the ground more readily. How about that slightly longer secondary spring that is very similar to the Yamaha silver spring?
Take care. Frosty
