I replaced my stator/ pick up about 3000-3500 miles ago with an oem and it’s gone again. Has anyone tried an aftermarket pickup coil like the below, it seems the oem ones don’t seem to last very well anyway.

i considered doing the rm stator one on my 09 phazer rtx but no one has ever posted up with the longevity of them compared to stock. i went oe as i know it made 10000 + mi before it failed but i did clean all the grounds while i was in there to help it last.

Yes that is why I went oem when I changed mine as I got about 8500 miles on it. Unfortunately I only got 3000-3500 on the second one. On mine the stators did not fail, it was the pick-up / crank sensor.

well i have not heard anything bad about them other than the wires could be incorrect in the plug.

Has anyone replaced the pick-up only with an aftermarket pickup?

Yes i did the rm stator pickup, just have to wire in. That fixed my code 12 but mine was still starting hard and would stall sometimes so i replaced with the whole new stator from them and that seemed to fix my problem, didn't get that many miles on before tradeing sled but seemed to work good.

Does the pick up fail the ohm test? I have heard if the pick up or flywheel gets some surface rust from sitting it will throw code.

Yes, I have never used the OEM since you need to buy the whole stator. I've done 5 of these, I just solder and heat shrink the wires. FYI, sometimes these are polarity sensitive, so if the sled idles poorly or the sled is hard to start, switch the wires at the plug.I replaced my stator/ pick up about 3000-3500 miles ago with an oem and it’s gone again. Yes fails the ohm test, sensor is open circuit.

Great tip! Thanks. The pick-ups you installed, are they 200 ohm or 500 ohm? It appears that RM stator uses a 200 ohm on their stator/sensor. Same unit for rx1 and fuel injected apex models up to 2010.

500 ohm. I have the 2006 Yamaha technical service book in my lap and the spec is 445-545. I get mine from a place called MC Distributing in Stratford.Great tip! Thanks. Would you have the part number on hand? I have the below sensor on order that was listed for my machine but the parts book didn’t have any specs for ohms. The parts book stated it fits an RX-1 also that uses a 200 ohm pickup so until I have the sensor in hand I can’t say for sure what I have. I can’t seem to find a definite ohms spec online.
Did you check the ohms of the new pick-up you installed?

Just go by what Yamaha says, which is my source. The part number from MC would be of no use to you, however, if you wanted to have them send you one, I could set that up. (they are dealer only) The price is $50 cad plus shipping which I don't think would be a lot.Would you have the part number on hand? Thank you, I should have my sensor soon and if it is not 5oo ohms I may get you to get me one if it’s not to much trouble.Just go by what Yamaha says, which is my source.
