Cold Air Intake mod

Dan this design your talking about in this thread, is it different from the system in your build post???
Yes I just did it this week....did not post it til I run it all this weekend.

But its simple and to the point. Get that air from screen to two areas.

Dan

I have D&D 255 flash on my sled. Had them Dyno it same day and Dale told me before we did, CAI will add 5hp. Guess what? Made 260hp! Dale knows his s..t!
I guess the 5 HP don't count because D & D did not make it the way knapp likes.

Maybe mod the side panel somehow to bring in extra cold air ?

It interesting to read this. One would think the companies designing the tunes would be logging he data and know what to do for best performance . Don't all recommend a modified intake?

Knapp if you want to run outside the hood hurricane has a external cai which I'm sure he has a tune that provides the extra fuel ?

I've been sending Hurricane logs and have talked to Dave about this. I haven't seen it knock once during testing. I haven't had the chance to go back through my logs to see just how much cooler if at all my intake Temps are, but the one thing that jumped out to me was how fast they dropped during multiple pulls.

As I stated before, I'll be installing a fan and some vents in the side panel to push more cold air into the clutch. The shroud on the filter is pushed up tight to the front vent, but I didn't want to use the entire vent although this may change once I see how affective the fan is.

Never said it didn’t count, you are just not picking up what I’m putting down though, so there you have it. I guess some people get it, and some don’t.

Hey Guys, just took my CAI out , like Knapp says robbing warm engine air and making clutches hotter. I put stock air box back in and I ordered a 12" x 12" pre filter material so I can use it instead of foam filter to get more air flow. Dennis Kirk has them in stock $20.00 includes shipping. Has anyone tried this on their air box ? I have not done it yet because pre filter material has not come yet. Chime in if anyone has ideas on mod! Thanks happy trails!

Guys, just a thought here. Could the aluminum intakes heat up more than the silicone ones and get heat soaked which is why temps stay hotter?

Probably.
has anyone recieved opinions from Hurricane, TD, PEFI etc..As all aftermarket companies are doing the most testing and selling different methods of modifying the airbox, their input would be valueable to this thread.

Here is a mod that i have done with good results. The temps on the mountain were -10c. The intake air temp on the dash was between 2c and -3c during the ride. I have an aftermarket light weight hood, but i think the same thing can be done by removing the lower intake case to gain some space. I used a 4" round soffit vent from the hardware store and a length of dryer vent to connect to the air intake box. A piece of frog skin over the vent to stop the snow from coming in is a critical thing that I didnt do initially. I also added a 3" vent to help with the under hood heat. No holes thru the hood and so far this is working great. Stock 2017 Mtn 162 no tune, 3" pipe.

I drilled three holes (1 3/4 in)in front of stock air box housing so it pulled cold air from hood and forced air straight in also. Let’s air flow to clutches still too. I think vents need to be added still in front of and behind clutches to cool them. It looks like my bulkhead mod is also helping reduce temps under the hood
Works as good as cai imo and from monitoring everything.
I would upload pic but says it’s too large

Edit pic. make sure it's largest dimension is only 1080 pixels
