When u say cycle the pump...key on till pump stops, key off, key on till pump stops, key off, key on till pump stops THEN CRANK IT OVER?
-23F sled sat outside last two days. Turned key on fuel pump cycled turned key rest of way and it lit right up.

Yellowknife said:I've been looking into this extensively with my own unit and have very detailed information coming out with air temperature testing all the way down to -42 C. Pay attention to my season's thread http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=123311 as i'll be putting the info up there in the coming weeks.
Cheers,

Check my latest video folks. Are you suggesting I have a lemon? Next couple episodes over the next two weeks will also be revealing. Cheers.

calltrex said:seriously who rides when its -30 ?? haha not me
That's what the CEO's & executives say!!!! lol I don't wanna hear that.
I know I'm a minority, but I do exist. As others have put it, if I didn't ride at -40 I'd be stuck not riding half the season, and that ain't in the cards. Maybe when I'm old like Greg.
That sucks. Is for sure big difference to all mechanicals between -20 and -30 f. I only remember a few times around here but it was bad almost all cars failed to start when -20f most started. Of course we have snowmobiles that should start below that. Hope Yamaha figures this out. Thanks for the report.

I know they'll get it sorted. Time frames are unknown. Hopefully before 2015 models are put in consumers hands.

That's all we've had here for the last month.....-30C with windchills in excess of -40C.
Got 1482 miles on since Dec. 28th.
No starting issues. When cold I always let the fuel pump cycle. When the engine is warm I just turn the key without cycling the fuel pump and she fires right up.

Last week one ltx Viper in our group would not start in morning at -20 f ; tried cycling number of times, but nothing. put a warm rag over top of fuse box and started right up.........frozen fuel pump relay. Expect it will happen again, but at least now we have possible quick fix.

Same gear as I always wear, just a few more layers of it and a heavier bellaclava. Gauntlets are a must.
Going to have to try the key cycle trick as my apex had a stiff start too at -30c.

Been one of the best snow years in recent years but it's been cold as hell. Not wasting this good snow though !!!

I'll provide a shameless plug for Yamaha's Outlast Technology equipped snowmobile gear. I use it down to -30 C (Base layer/mid layer/outer shell) and thumbs up! Past -30 I need to add one more fleece layer between the base and the mid layers.
