Yes Redline, just keep looking. You will find a good used one. I bought mine used. I hate paying "new" prices for anything!

I rode $2,500 2 strokes before selling and renting the 4S yamaha's.
Come out cheaper this way than maintaing the 2S.
That said, if you can spend $2,500 you can save another $500 and buy a $3,000 Phazer very easily. Or rent for a year or 2 and save all that 2S maintenance cost to buy a $5-6K 4S.
Simply put, they are so expensive because they are worth it!

Thanks, question.......has the motor changed much since the 03 RX1? I know that the suspension, chassis, & slight clutching upgrades but what about the motor?

Thanks Ben....that does make a lot of sense.....now, if I can only convince my wife.

do you know how many parts there are in a 4st overhead cam motor? let alone dual overhead cam! You're trying to compare a simple 2stroke to one of the most complex 4st in the world. Its like asking why a ferrari costs so much, its called quality parts and engineering.
Do you see any 2500 dollar etec kicking around? NO cause try to make a 2st even close to a 4st in smoothness, power delivery and reliability (lol etec) you gotta spend alot more coin.

If you read the previous posts you'd see that some here have sold used 4's for 2500 & on a rare occasion, less. As for the difference between a 2-stroke vs 4....I'm obviousely here to learn....don't take it personal.

I'm thinkin you need to have a beer, thats what i'm doing.

Another interesting thing is initially the prices fall off about the same as other models...I paid about 300$ more for my attak than a bud paid for his same year 800X Rev (2007). And all in all in the fist 4 to 5 years they are quite close. But after that 4 to 5 years they hold their value so well it is unreal. Comparing an 03 Rev to an RX 1 there is a BIG difference..

All in good fun but honestly, just trying to learn about these sleds. Having owned & ridden 2 strokes.....it's a learning experience. I understand the whole reasoning in the cost difference but it still seems like quite a lot of cake compared to the 2's & yes, it all evens out in the end. Some who think I'm just a troll should lighten up & do a few shots of Crown Black or get out...now that's a drink.

That's a great analogy on the values. Seems like a large % of 2 strokes are basically not in it for the long haul in both reliability & re-saleability where the 4's will hold & in most cases, excel. It's more of a long term investment where most (not all) 2 strokes are short term. Does this mean that 'I'm seeing the light' or 'born again'??

It is not a Yamahas are expensive thing..it is a all four strokes are expensive thing. It costs a lot more to build a four stroke. Get it done right the first time or pay more later....
