I have an 05 Rx1 with a simons turbo, just wondering how you guys are plumbing your cool down carts to get it to actually cool the motor. Im having problems with mine not really cooling. Im running a radiator and 12v pump using cpc quick connects. Fittings are plumbed in where line goes down from coolant reservoir to the right side running board. The problem I having is it doesnt really bring my temp down and just fills the coolant reservoir full. The rx1 uses a much different cooling arrangement than older 2 stroke sleds, and I cant find a diagram anywhere on coolant flow. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is it necessary on the Rx1 to remove the thermostat to use a cool down cart?

I have an apex and my quick disconnects are by the radiator but most guys put them on the hoses going to the rear cooler. The cooler I made for mine involved a large cooler and copper tubing. Coil up the copper tubing in the cooler. Drill 2 holes in the cooler and have each end of the tubing coming out of the cooler. Clamp some hoses onto the ends of the tubing with your quick disconnects. Obviously you'll need your inline pump on one the lines also to circulate the coolant. Fill the cooler with ice. The more copper tubing you can get in the cooler the faster it's going to cool it. I've seen guys use heater cores from cars also. And yes the thermostat needs to be removed for proper circulation.

You did remove your thermostat right?
I have always ran mine over the top of the tunnel by the back of the running board heat exchangers and just had my hose/crossover tube lay behind the seat.I know a lot of people run there's this way.I never had a problem cooling.

I did not remove the thermostat. Simons specifically told me not to. I even asked him twice because I thought it was odd. Ill take it out this weekend and try it again. Does anybody know if it matters which way you try to push water through?

If you are running a cool down kit you have to remove your thermostat. He probaly ment for trail riding or lake racing.

I removed my thermostat, but have still had mixed results with it. It cools from around 170 to about 110 in a couple minutes, but it seems some places are still hot and others are cold. Not sure what the deal is there. Did some testing today for an upcoming grass drag, it should work ok assuming they give us a decent amount of cooldown. Also have an ongoing ignition problem, but thats for another thread I suppose.

With your thermostat removed you are getting full circulation but with the 4 strokes the oil holds so much heat and tales a long time to cool.I think that's what your experiencing.

Went I did the cool cart on my mach z. I pulled the thermostat and gutted it essentially removing the little gate that opens when temp is reached. This way it could flow when temps were low but still provided a restriction so coolant didnt move too quickly.

I got it worked out, the setup works pretty well now. And yes, the oil holds a ton of heat. I can bring the water temp down from 180 ish to 100 in a few minutes no problem. It helps to be able to let the cool down cart circulate for about 10 minutes to help get some heat out of everything else, but being a 4 stroke with a front mount turbo everything gets so hot theres not much you can do about it.
