I love the concept for a a battery pack for the heated shield. I did a search and found this on the HJC website. There is a temperature control unit battery pack?

Using the 12v =2a,reduce using a 1a fuse in the positive line.
Nope, fuses don't work like that. A fuse only does something when the current draw of the device exceeds its value, but it doesn't regulate the current draw in any way. What you are thinking of is a resistor.

Looks like a temp control unit is available. That would lower consumption. For now I will try a resistor inline. Thinking 1 a. With a switch. Will get in habit of only using shield when needed instead of on all the time like I do now. Easy enough to recharge the unit while riding also if needed. Just run cord to sled.

The unit says 12,000 mah or 12 Amp Hours.
The shield on average will draw 1.5 amp constant at 12vdc.
So in a perfect world if the load is 1.5 amps we could take 12ah / 1.5amp = 8 hours.
It is a full resistive load so it will be effected by temp and cabling etc.
The battery will not put out a consistent 12v the whole time.
My guess would be between 4 and 6 hours.

Yes I got 4 hrs out of a 90% charge so your math is right on. Not enough. I am shooting for 8 real world hrs. Test next weekend.

Here is a wrinkle as well, and it's something you won't probably be able to test until it gets colder. How long will it last sitting out in 5 degrees compared to your garage. Cool project!

Sounds like a solution in search of a real problem. I would certainly rather have a cord to deal with than to carry a battery pack in my pocket. Just my $0.02

I think you are right with that Dave. I was thinking of putting a gel battery on my person somewhere to power my GoPro longer. Then reality struck and it was obvious to just use an electric shield cable between me and the sled. I don't use an electric shield, but would easily justify using the cord to power my GoPro.
I think that is my next big seller is designing the water resistant back for the camera, that connects to the RCA-style power to the GoPro. I think I have a profitable idea there.

Sounds like a new product for Rocztoyz to develop and sell. Are you listening Rock?

Rock is listening. I just hate cords and being able to just hop off and on sled without it would be really nice. Keep in mind I also have a tether for the rollover valve. I don't like being beat and if you have to plug in cords you aren't going to be first!

Had a couple setbacks. At Muni group ride I left the rear bag open and lost my MicroStart in a Fluke grey pouch, toolkit with airpump, rope, tools and a Multiknife in the stock little bag. Was lost between hotel and the first T on trail. Reward if returned!
Anyway tried to make best of a bad situation and bought the New XP10. Should have researched better because in all my excitement over more batt power I did not look at size! Its to big to carry in pocket. I have no doubt it will do 8hrs with a shield but would need a backpack! Is nice in now it has boost and reverse polarity protection. Check it out. If I ever go on a overnighter and do use a backpack as I have in past I will give the shield a shot otherwise done with testing.

Lol, yep!
Biff, get ahold of me, we have a power supply that a few have purchased for their GoPro's.
Would like to streamline them for the GoPro, get ahold of me & let's work together on it.

I still like idea of a all in one cord Rock. Hope you can figure it out.
