Couple of SRViper XTX questions from a new guy

Got a 2015 xtx se and i love it rode 1300 miles last year in the key and grand marais, once you get it dialed in which took some figuring out the floats.
Shes mighty fine now.
Oh btw slydogs are not a good trail ski the keel is way to long and flat, but it is a awesome off trail ski.
Ive found the slp is a good choice for this sled with a front skid spring change from hygear.
Coming off a f-7 was to say the least a shocker, but got tired of building 2 stroke motors.
For me the power curve and the engine brake took a day or two too figure out,but now i cant see ever riding a 2 stroke again.

Unleash the beast

When you say slydogs are not a good trail ski the keel is way to long and flat what do you mean? Do it cause the sled to dart, push or understeer.

Now when i said slydog wasnt a good trail ski i should have been clearer.
Its not the fit fit for a front heavey yami, but is awesome on other sleds.
Now my sled on the trail in the up where its wide open skis did ok at best.
In lower mi around gaylord i was ready to sell the sled its was terrible steering.
If you look at the sd skies they are veey flat and long that legnth hurts your steering.
It didnt dart the skies just stayed plated with the front end weight and would not turn.
You have 100 percent of the keel and carbide stuck in hard pack.
Now that being said theres been a lot of debate about a front skid shock change.
It works well along with diffrent skies with a curved keel the stsering is almost like power steering.
Stingray did a real exstensive write up on the spring change very good read.
That being said iam no sled guru.that just works for our gang we all have yamis.
I talked to the guys at hygear and he asked what skies i had.i told him thats when we talked about the ski diffrences.
They also sell the spring for the front shock.
Thats my 2 cents i could be totally off base but i now love my sled.

So the ski's caused heavy steering? The reason why I ask cause I installed the 8'' sd at the end of last season but did not get a chance to try them. I also changed out my center stock spring to 160lbs but never got a chance to try it either.

Reed how much off trail riding do u do? How much u weigh geared down? Contemplating spring and 8"sly dog but hardly ride trails.

Joshua how much u weigh geared down? Trying to see what size spring I should get.

80% off trail.
190 with gear.

Around 210lbs. I went with the 160lbs spring. But have not tried it yet

We have 8inch Slydogs, no heavy steering here.

I strongly suggest you try the 160 spring first, then change skis if needed.

Yes and I will add that even if heavier steering it will be something you get used to after a ride or two. For me I will do anything I have to to avoid a sled that pushes and won't steer. Even if it means heavier steering. Need complete confidence sled will turn. That and $ is why I have stuck with 6.9 pilots and 7.5 of carbide. They turn much harder than Curves or stock but they turn guaranteed. Just can't afford to take chance on a better ski like Curve.
