Wow I'm rusty on the apex! If you haven't seen my garage thread I am resurrecting the SC apex out of mothballs! I still have my winder but this will be a spare (or primary) sled I like options :)

So I used to be able to do all the maint blindfolded with one arm tied behind my back. Its been 3 long years and I forgot LOL. So I need some refreshing.

#1 Clutch squeals like crazy (Primary) I used to just blow it out but I wonder if I need a more through cleaning now.

#2 What washers go BEHIND the secondary? This sled was half parted out so I probably have misplaced them, the secondary literally has 1/2-3/4" of "float" which is way to much from what I remember and I don't have a single washer behind it. That must be my problem.

#3 Oil change was done, I put a qt in through the top of the motor and 2 in the tank, started up runs and circulates fine but Its too full (remember I have MPI oil tank which is smaller) so 3 qts total in it, should I drain some? It was over full when WARM. Do we check it warm or cold? Dip stick threaded in or out?

#4 Chain case fill with reverse I have the level between the top of the reverse mark and the bottom of the non reverse mark. ( I have reverse) from memory this is correct right?

#5 Coolant isn't in either plastic tank and I remembered that it if I filled it up it would blow it out then stop at a certain level. No cooling issues and its maybe 1/2 cup from full. No big deal right?

Other then that everything else went back together as I remembered it. So fun to get back on the instant power of 4cyl heaven again!

Dad sold his vector so he will be riding this or the SW pending which one I want to ride LOL (perks of owning both!)

Thanks Apex owners!! :-o

1. Belt squeal is either misaligned or to tight in the secondary. You can remove the washers from the three bolts on the backside of the secondary. Take the primary apart. You might have a stuck roller.
2. There is a thick washer and then usually a thin washer behind the secondary and thin washers with a thick washer on the bolt side. Thin washers are for setting alignment.
3. Checking oil on a stock tank is with the dipstick threaded out.
4. Most guys will overfill to the non reverse mark. So if you are near the top of the reverse mark you are good to go.
5. The plastic tank with the steel rad cap should be filled to the Cold level with the engine cold. Other tank with the black cap is the overflow tank and may have coolant in it when the engine is hot but will go down in coolant level as the engine cools off and the system sucks the coolant back in.

Thank you sir, I definitely have the secondary wrong. I have the 1 thick and 2 thin washers on the bolt side but nothing on the inside, let me get that fixed and maybe my primary squeal goes away. If I check engine oil with the dipstick threaded out then I am spot on, yay!

I'll add the coolant just to see if it spits it out again. I remember this was always a issue specific to SC apexs. Doesn't hurt to add it.

Great tips and saved me some searching! Much appreciate @steiner !!!

Mine is a 16 xtx and there is no washers behind the secondary, one thick washer and 3 thin on the bolt side, set from the factory, so they are not all set the same.

Thanks! I found my clutch offset tool buried and will check it with the secondary pushed tight to the bearing side and see how far off it is. I also found my 2nd secondary clutch from my turbo sled I crashed and I had a zip tie around that to keep the order and there is a thick and thin washer on that one behind the secondary. I had the same zip tie approach on this one so I have 2 secondary clutches and one with no washers behind it and one with a thick and thin washer behind it.

Both clutches have the same thick and 2 thin washers on the bolt side.

I just don't remember THIS much float. Seems excessive. I'll use the clutch offset tool and shim accordingly.
