It appears that the 4 into 1 Exup assembly on the 2011 and up Apex is as fragile as the old Apex head pipes. I have two friends right now with 2011 Apexs and both have cracked Exups. Approximately 8000 miles. Aynone else had issues. $2500 to by a new one. Friggin ridiculous.

I'm surprised someone hasn't come out with a power Commander map to eliminate the Exup.

i thought hindle was working on a system to eliminate it

Really Yamaha WTF do you do any real world testing before you send stuff out to the public. buy a freeking 10,000 dollar sled and in 8,000 miles ill need to put 2500 into it to keep it going? how Fing dumb. okay rant over but seriously this is realy not making me happy with my lattest purchase.

EXUP valve changes exhaust pulse, Power commander changes fuel delivery. Fuel can't take the place of the EXUP valve. EXUP is very good technology, why eliminate it?

by the time i hit 8000miles theyll be exups floating around for cheap, ive eliminated my exup on my roadliner and added exhaust. no difference whatsoever only that it backfires less than when it had stock exhaust. im surprised it cracked, usually the wires snap.

My guess is that there will be no Exup assemblies "floating" around. How many Titanium head pipes for 2006 thru 2010 Apexs are available used. I have not seen an aftermarket exhaust for the new Apex yet and cannot see them standing up any better.

This is just another Yamaha engineering short coming. Titanium head pipes have cracked on the Apex for years now and they were $450.00 x2. This was such an issue that they brought out the stainless head pipes for a quarter of the price. Did they really think this new apex would any better? No, just make it more complex and expensive. No matter which way you look at it the rear exiting exhaust has more disadvantages then advantages.

This really should make people think twice about buying a apex for "Long Term Reliabilty". Sure it will make it home all the time but in 2 seasons it will need a $2500.00 EXUP assembly. Can you say retarded! They need to have a forward facing conventional exhaust like the other OEMs. Then it there would be way less issues on many levels. But then Yamaha would be agreeing that the other OEMs had a better design than them.

I hope the EXUP assembly is covered under Extended warranty and that most people bought it. I know alot that did not buy extended warranty because they Yamahas are so reliable. But it failed to mention in the brochure that the life expectancy of the EXUP on a new Apex is 8000 miles. Would this be acceptable if your truck exhaust lasted only 8000 miles?

End Rant. It is just plain BS and 1 more reason to buy another brand!

MBRP makes the can, once the headers are put into production you will have a ton of exup systems laying around from that or from wrecked sleds if salvagable. If bikes have companies bypassing exup(it is thought it is just a gimmick for environmental test procedures) for complete full exhaust its just a matter of time before some owners are removing exup for straightpipes like i had on my attak. They wont be as common as bogey wheels but there will be options, bad luck for the guys with that many miles already since the exup in a sled is relatively new.

Check around there are used ones for sale.

OK so maybe there will be used ones for people who want a used one with unknown miles on it and could crack in the next ride.It is still poor design and not acceptable in my books. This is 2013 and we should not be having to pay $2500 to repair an exhaust in 8000 miles. I have been a loyal Yamaha rider for 20 years but I am slowly growing tired of issues like this. It is tough for me to say but after seeing this happen to a well maintained sled my next new sled may not be blue.

i agree it is unacceptable but i'm sure there are others who have more miles then this that have no issues. maybe they will chime in.

do these owners actually check the system every once in a while (exhaust donuts coming loose will damage the pipes and crack them as well) or are they the type that just gas and go and hope for the best. i can see this happening if someone does that on any type of vehilce/snowmobile. Preventitive maintenance goes a long ways and is a lot cheaper then waiting until everything breaks. just my 2 cents

is that $2500 just in parts?

Dubla92, do you have any pics of the damage? Something I'll check at the end of the season.
