Cross border sled shopping.

You may be able to register the sled to an American name and address, but you couldn't insure it here.... not worth the hassle IMO.

never had any issues with being canadian and usa registered sled....its totally legal to do....its still registered to HIM,but using a NY address, anyone can own property in USA...cops dont care about that at all....they just want to see trail permits usually....but you just say you own and ride primarily in NY...so you bought it there, and just came north to ride for a weekend.

In NY state we do not have trail permits, what we do in NY is we add extra cost to our NY registration, which goes to trail fund....anyone who rides in NY MUST have a NY reg...regaurdless of where you are from....so canadians,or anyone from other states MUST register there sled in NY to ride there...this is fact.

registering a sled in NY is what others have to do to ride in NY..so this makes it easy for buyers outside of NY...as NYS DMV makes it easy for non state sleds to be regd in ny.

the only part that is tough,is that yammie is coming down on their NY bordered dealers, and has given them warning to not sell to canadians...however,they cant say anything if they register it IN NY....

the only tough part is IF you get yanked over at border bringing sled over...being canadian license plate, they might question,if they see NY reg on sled...but many canuks OWN property in NY..so its totally legal to have a US sled and be canadian...

been doing this for yrs with sleds,I used to buy all my sleds in canada when exhange for ME was better, and I would bring it back to NY for storage ect...

If you want to save thousands, its worth the try IMO...might be abit tricky to do but it IS doable...been there done it!

anyone needs an awesome dealer in Buffalo area,PM me and Ill walk you thru it.

Dan
I just got off the phone with Canada Customs and it would be tough to do because my place of residence is Canada (meaning I live in Canada and I am Canadian) reguardless if I have a residence in the U.S. They said I still need to register it in Canada and pay the taxes, which I think is bull*crap. That would worry me for Warranty issues. I'm not sure about this one.....

My canuk bud Insures his apex in NY...no probs and alot cheaper insurance too!

ofcourse customs will tell you that you must register it in canada..this is why its best to have a usa buddy bring it across...like i did for my bud.

As i said its abit tricky, but in the end it is LEGAL to do,and it saves alot of cash!....my bud paid 9900 w/9% tax USA for his 06 GT new...up here in canada they wanted 15,500 plus 15%taxes....I would say he saved over 3 gs at least...

3grand is alot of cash, and IMO ,sure its alittle tricky but thats alot of cash to be saved.....most warrantee issues,we do ourselves...by removing the BAD part or item, taking it back to US dealer and getting new part under warrantee..done!

Its definitlely not for everyone..but for those guys who like to skate along the edge of authority and like to "get those deals"....this is a way to do it...

Me being an american from NY and riding in canada,I know the game and I have helped many play the game to save cash.

That is much easier. You pay the canadian tax and a fee at the border and that is it. I will meet you at the border in Buffalo if you would like an 06 Apex GT with 2500 miles and 144 studs.

if its a used sled you have to send the paperwork to the us customs office 3 days before you bring the sled accross the border. they need time to check if its stolen or if there are any leins against it. if the sled has never been registered then you dont have to send the paperwork ahead of time.
