No.Don't have a Winder so not sure how hard this is to do with tunes but why don't people return sled to stock before taking in for engine issues like this. Better chance of warranty repair approval no?
There is data stored in the ECU that the Yamaha TSM will ask to have submitted for review. You can swap out the ECU, but then the VIN will not match the unit and I don’t think you’re any further ahead.
The only way this gets fixed with support from Yamaha, is if Yamaha wants to help. You’re not going to fool them into fixing this on warranty.
Best bet is having a good relationship with a good dealer and asking them to go to bat for you.

You are right on the money with your post lakercr. This is one of the reasons I'm holding off putting a tune in mine I know there are tons of guy's out there with no problems but with my luck this is the kinda thing that would happen to me. I'm not knocking any of the tuners out there but it doesn't seem like any of them stand behind there tune when stuff like this happens. You as a individual tho should be prepared for this when you install the tune knowing it might cook your motor.

Posted this weekend that my 2020 winder Ltx Se lost power with no codes displayed. Well took sled to dealer and sure enough there’s no compression and coolant in the middle cylinder. I’m running Td power trail 270 dalton clutching and mbrp trail exhaust. The dealer tried to tell me sled was out of warranty which I knew was wrong. My question is has anybody had any experience with dealing with Yamaha on something like this? I only ask because dealer made it sound like they may or may not cover it? I’ve only had the tune and upgrades done for 750miles now and sled has 4500 on it now give or take a 100 miles.
Do you mind sharing what you were doing when this happened? WOT, breaking trail, racing?

I did not get any warning lights on nothing. I had back then DD 260 hp tune with their muffler, cai and clutching. Sled was flashed with around 1000 miles and lasted another 4oo after was tuned.3 rd pass on lake when it blew up just like that, I was running on 91 non ethanol fuel. First thing I’ve done was to load sled back in trailer and drove straight back to DD shop. They didn’t care about what happened, they said that they can fix it for $9k . So long story short guys you tune them sleds on your own responsibility, no tuner nor manufacturer is going to cover motor repairs when you blow up motor.

I'm a powersports rep (not Yamaha) and per our policy, it would be denied.

Does it seem like a lot of these sleds that are going down are running CAI?

There are way too many variables beyond the control of the Hurricane/TD/PEFI/etc to offer any kind of warranty on stuff like this. They all make exceptionally good products that are light years ahead of what we had ~17 years ago when we started boosting these 4S motors. There is knock protection on the tunes, but that's not a panacea for ensuring these motors never get hurt. You are right on the money with your post lakercr. I have a power commander V to add fuel for the mods I have. No issues and I hope it won’t void my warranty as I was told it doesn’t have anything to do with the ecu. I don’t know if it does and hope it keeps running smooth

Wasnt the knock light put into place later? Didnt the early tunes have no knock warning?

Not sure what date D&D started using PEFI tunes? I think it was 2 yrs ago now? Maybe that sled was a true D&D tune? I do know the only PEFI tunes that allow CAI is Stage 3R (300HP) & 4 (320HP). They specifically state to NOT use CAI on Stage 3 (280HP).Pretty sure D&D used PEFI tune that's the way I was leaning I'm sure glad I didn't pull the trigger seems like they are having more problems than anyone else.

Well when they flashed my sled-2 years ago, I’ll asked them about who’s tuned they are using and they said that they were using their own tunes .

Yes I want to know that too! My sled flashed one time one flash so I backed off. Then slowly increased again and one more flash and engine was toast. Tired of the excuse its #*$&@ gas when they advertise their safety with their knock system. FALSE ADVERTISINGWe all know all the tuners have well-developed knock/detonation systems (more sensitive than stock). My question is why doesn't knock protection system work when there is detonation? Even if there was too much timing and octane too low, why doesn't knock protection work? Isn't that the whole point and purpose of that system?
I've read about this type scenario several times in the last month here on TY and also on other forum sites. When there's detonation, why doesn't the protection work?
