Plugging the wastegate solenoid vent?

The tuned one was having low boost issues that he could not resolve. I got him to drop the winder off and this is what I found.
I still need to go through a few things but I am pretty this was his issue

Without a doubt that was the issue of low boost. The dealer didn't know squat about how that valve works to bleed off pressure and control the boost. He obviously had no clue plugging the valve off like that.

I wonder how many more dealers did that and if that could be some of the complaints of low boost on some of these sleds we read about this winter. Too obvious now that we see it. So Cat/Yamaha must have sent a bulletin out like the one above and the dealers got it all messed up capping the valve and not the airbox. Easy enough to see how it could happen looking at that page provided above from the tech update book, as most of these dealers are not versed on the workings of a electronic bleed controlled wastegate turbo machine. They added a cap at the valve, which they never should have done. That valve bleeds pressure off the wastegate to raise the boost over the spring pressure loaded wastegate controller.

Unfortunately you can not rely on the dealers to get it right with maintenance and repair of modern sleds.

I have 2 sled with 2 different dealer that both plugged the solenoid. Going to keep an eye out for this in the future.

I always know I will get reliable answers and opinions

Here is the work order done by the one dealer!!
It clearly says they plugged the line and called the solenoid "a boost sensor"..lol

Bringing this back to the top for those that may want to include removing that hose in their pre-season maintenance. (It was on my list from last year)

Funny you brought this up! I just noticed mine was connected to the airbox. I just reached down and snipped the line, plugged the line to airbox and let the peice of hose from solenoid vent to atmosphere

Saw this twice last winter in northern WI on 2 TCats. Both had ice plugging the hose to the airbox. Used hair dryer to thaw and then cut them off about 2 inches below solenoid. Problem solved and did not recur.
