First off,my hat goes off to the Rockmeister!!!.....there is no one who is better to deal with or more helpful anywhere then him,you truly are a great guy and a huge benefit to this site and all of us yammie owners OWE you alot for making a kick butt system to warm our hands, when it took yammie 4 yrs or MORE to even try.
the purpose of this thread is to show my custom install on the apex/attack model. As many of you know i tend to take my sled apart all the time, and with 'ROCKS' plug and go play yamaheater i wanted to be able to get my parts off as fast as before without having to remove the switch or LED light. so for those of you getting ready to install a yamaheater on apex, this might be of interest.
Dan
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SWITCH LOCATION
I felt that the switch was something I would NOT need to be using 99% of the time, since the switch is really only to TURN OFF HEATERS 100% which i would never do except maybe on a really hot spring ride. I still wanted to be able to get at it so i didnt want to bury it underneath like some guys have done. So i found a nice spot for it where it can be turned on/off while stopped.(thru the left side vent) This way the switch does not get in the way for removing any of my panels, yet still i can use it if a warm day came when i wanted to turn heaters off 100%.
I drilled a hole and mounted the switch on the steel headlight bracket on clutch side of sled(must remove the pod/shield) this pic is from above with headlight and gauge pod removed, looking downward you can see the backside of switch and all the wiring for yamaheater ziptied

Switch from front side

Notice RED switch & Yamaheater Unit ziptied in place above my Ignition module

the switch is accessible from the vent on left side.

LED LIGHT LOCATION
My theory was to mount the LED light in a location where it did not have to be removed when i wanted to remove my panels. so I mounted the LED light on the handlebar pad,i think it worked out awesome. I did not have to lengthen the wire at all,I did wrap it in black sleeve so it looked better coming up front of the bar riser.
LED light in PAD

LED RED FULL POWER-HI(notice ZERO BARS on Gauge POD)

LED GREEN Standard Bar heater mode(notice bars on gauge pod)

Just wanted to let anyone that is considering one of Rockmeister Yamheaters, They are quite simply AWSOME!!! Rock has great customer support ( needed his assistance and he worked with me till "dial it in" They work, support is awsome and product is first class, plug & play--- only way to go. Finally have warm handlebars on my o6 Attak, been riding Yamaha since the early 70's, for a company like Yamaha to have not fixed thgis issue is dissapointing, fortunately we have talented people in this great sport that can out think the Yammi engineers, Hats off to ya Rock Meister... I really like that position for the LED. I have mine poking out of the wire bundle on left side of bars because I didn't want to drill into the plastic. But, this looks like a nice alternative. Ialso put my switch in the same location as you did. Handy and easy to get to.
Gotta love this site. The ideas are always great.

Aww Dan now if you get a SC you lost the prime location for the GEM module mount
Nice write up!
Can I ask why you went from the re-wire to the yamaheater? Or are you running the yamaheater in conjuction with the 06 bars and 07 wiring harness?
I have a 06 with 06 bars with 07 wiring harness and they do get hot and I was thinking of running it that way based on your past reccomendations but I also have a yamaheater available as well.
Thanks!

other setup was hot but my pinky would still freeze with those UNheated hooks on orig bars...
with yamaheater the entire bar is hot.
I would not run GEMS anyway,Rb3 is the way to go.....but might be considering the yamcharger or new sled for 11 if they come with more HP on new apex.

yamahaheater no service
glad to hear that someone has had a positive experience with rockmeister and his yamahaheater. I purchased two units at haydays this year, and paid cash per his request. Although several months went buy before I could install them, both units had their own seperate issues. I went to the yamahaheater web site and asked for assistance but to no avail. My biggest fear with paying cash is no recourse on the transaction in the event there is a problem.
I did everything that he asked of me, I paid cash and when I had a problem I sent him an email with my question. What did I get in return? Nothing.
I'm sure your all friends and you'll back him 100% I'm simply stating my experience with rockmeister and the yamahaheater

I would suspect that something went wrong with your email and it didn't get to him. I've sent him numerous messages and he has always gotten back to me. He even called me on his own dime to help with my setup since my 06 Attak was wired slightly different.

Hi Dewey!
I actually sent you a reply right away (Same day).
Looked back through my emails & it appears that all my emails I sent OUT while in Gaylord riding last time did not go through.
Yours was one of them.
I do apologise, DEFINITELY am serious about support!
Send me a PM with your phone number & will get you taken care of.
So you know, Most of us have never met, we only know each other through our communication & experiences with each other.
If those experiences are good, we will say so, if they aren't, we will also say so.
Now I have to find the others I sent emails to that day & get them out again... Grrrr
Rock
PS Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
