Is anyone running Dalton QAY-54 on their vipers? I bought a set, and they pull hard and seem to be a good profile, but I can't seem to get rid of them over-revving and hitting limiter on take off. Did anyone else have this issue? Were you able to get rid of this over-rev?

Sounds like you need to load the weight more to the heel, or add some more initial helix angle, or both. What’s your traction situation like? You may be lighting up the track like crazy and bouncing off the limiter too, lots of variables here.

I am running a 45/41 helix. Engage rpm 3500. It definitely wants to spin. As for the heel weight, is it ok not to run the slugs all the way to the tip in these daltons? Use some locktite and keep the slugs close to the heel ok?

Totally fine to run slugs anywhere you want to in the weight as long as it’s secured in place once you’re done testing. I’ve had the best luck running the slugs close to the heel and leaving the tips empty, although the Winder guys usually do the opposite.

I have the ultimax xs825 belt. I will try the slugs in the heel this week, hopefully that is enough to get rid of that intial over-rev. Thanks for the input!

You can also try lowering the belt slightly into the secondary.

Funny as heel weight is where I’d think to be as well BUT I have an Ulmer set up with STM weights and they had me set it up with most of the weight in the tip which I thought was weird, double checked and that’s where they want it.

I have the Dalton in my Cat 7000 and I always run them in all the way. What am I giving up by doing this? How does heel vs toe effect rpms?

The profile of the Supertips weights Ulmer uses are a much different profile than the Daltons. Allen does extensive testing with his track dyno and out in the field, I’d start with his recommendations and fine tune from there.Funny as heel weight is where I’d think to be as well BUT I have an Ulmer set up with STM weights and they had me set it up with most of the weight in the tip which I thought was weird, double checked and that’s where they want it.

Test with different placement within the weight and find out. Different set ups, different conditions, different days, different sleds, different results. The nice thing about the quick adjust weights is that test and tune is super easy.I have the Dalton in my Cat 7000 and I always run them in all the way. What am I giving up by doing this? I’m happy with it added a bit of weight to the mid hole to pull down rpm in mid a touch. Trying a 8dn belt this year so we’ll see how that changes things if anyThe profile of the Supertips weights Ulmer uses are a much different profile than the Daltons. I wouldn't That will make it even worse with initial over-revI’m happy with it added a bit of weight to the mid hole to pull down rpm in mid a touch. Trying a 8dn belt this year so we’ll see how that changes things if any

Agreed, the 8DN belt will almost certainly make the over rev condition worse.I wouldn't That will make it even worse with initial over-rev
