Debating buying a high mileage Sidewinder

Looking for a little bit of advice to maybe help sway my decision. I currently have a 2013 Nytro XTX in great shape with 11,000km. I love the sled it's great fun on trail and off. Wish I was a bit faster, but don't really want to add a turbo at this point.

There's a 2017 Sidewinder XTX for sale locally. It looks great however it has almost 22,000km here is the info from the ad:

• New 1.6 ripsaw studded track
• 4th wheel kit.
• Barn of parts drive shaft saver
• 22 tooth DMC top Gear
• Brass shift forks
• Ski doo pilot 6.9 skis with snow trackers

Been a great sled, most kms done in Quebec. All new chain case gears, chain, and drive shaft at 14k km.

Always stored inside and transported with enclosed trailer.

No tune, fully stock motor.

One Side panel had been repaired a few years ago in a small spot.

This is a well-maintained sled."

They are asking $8,000 CAD.

A few buddies of mine who also ride turbo 998 sleds are telling me not to worry about the mileage it will go forever with proper maintenance.

I'll have to sell my Nytro to afford it. Having a hard time pulling the trigger. If it has lower mileage it would be a no brainer, but the 22k worry me.

Any input is appreciated, thank you!
 
You don’t need to worry about the motor. It is the chassis you need to worry about. I would check the tunnel over for loose rivets, especially behind the engine under the fuel tank. Make sure the tunnel isn’t cracked on the backside of the brake rotor.
 
22000 km on the chassis won't be an issue unless it was abused. I know first hand. I have a 8000 with 24000 kms. It's still tight. I also had another 8000 with a lot less K that had a little bit of a tough life. I had to replace tunnel rivets, the chaincase cracked, the front tunnel mounts for the suspension were repaired. Same year, same motor, just different riders. On average, Quebec rode sleds are better than Ontario rode sleds.
 
I wouldn’t be worried, like number1kyster and je said check for crack’s loose rivets and also where skid mounts, have a look under neath for any obvious bending or impacts to the under side etc. start it up the only rattling you should hear is the primary clutch which is normal.
 
Ok great, so if all is good should still last me for many more km.
 
There are all kinds of sleds out there for sale. I would not worry about miles if well taken care of and owned by someone who knows the fixes that need dealt with. That said, make sure you know what you want for suspensions packages, track lug heights ect. That 141 uncoupled suspension is a wheelie happy machine that rides pretty rough and made for deeper loose snow. Also know what shock package your getting. Some of the base model SE Winders ride, handle and steer like dump trucks with piss poor shocks, and the LE models more like a Porsche and can even ride like a Cadillac. Shocks will make all the difference on the ProCross chassis that is certain, know which model you are getting and want or you could regret it.

Thank you. The XTX is what I want. I currently ride a nytro xtx and love the playfulness of it. I had a 137 viper before the nytro and didn't like how flat it rode, could barely get the skis up if you tried. So the uncoupled skid is what I'm after for sure. Shock package I'm not 100 percent on. It has floats on the front. Not sure about what is in the skid. I've attached a photo of it.

Knappattack is spot on about shocks. I know I wouldn't want one with Float shocks, one reason is, guess what happens when you lose a seal? You are flat on the ground, no coil over spring to hold it up and get you home. I would look for one with Fox QS3 or QS3r shocks, those are the best two shocks these machines came with IMHO. I used to have a 2017 STX DX with the coil over gas shocks, it was fine on a smooth trail, but once it got rough, it rode like a cement truck. Having friends riding along with the LE models with QS3r shocks, it became quickly apparent what was superior. Adding these shocks later is very expensive, I looked into it and they don't pop up for sale very often used.

I think you would be remised in not going with the new chassis as the new Procross chassis and it's is a huge upgrade from the old. I understand you had reservations from the old chassis, but given the chance find a 2019 or newer model with EPS. It absolutely is a game changer and I will get flack for doing so but look for a late model XTX. You will not get a better ride than the comfort of an XTX LE!
 
I rode a Nytro for many years. Switched to the Winder in 2018. Looking back I should have bought one in 2017. It is that much better!!

I believe it. I want one, just not one with 22,000km. If I sold my nytro id still have to fork out an extra $4000. Just wasn't the right deal I don't think. I'll keep looking!

I have a 17 mtx I will sell you with about 1400 miles for 12

Good move in my opinion. I bought a higher mileage machine and maintaining it is a all year long job to keep it dependable
