Im doing the upper gear bushing replacement on both my SRX and Thundercat this week, i bought the bushing/adjuster/skate from precision EFI for both of them, just wondering if its worth doing the brake fork pads, nether sled has any problems going into reverse and from what im reading the jury seems to be hung on whether they are worth replacing or not?
Looking for a fresh opinion on this

Might as well throw them on the reverse fork while you're in there. Last thing that you would want happening is to have one of those plastic clips break when you're on a trip. Then you either have to tear open a chaincase when you would rather be riding and hope that there is someone nearby that has replacements, or it screws up your trip.

Lots and lots of 998s out there with tons of miles and the factory pads are still working fine. Some even say, the brass pads can break too. If it were my sled, I'd probably put them in.

If I had them in hand I would install them, I wouldn't pay for them...

I could be wrong here, but the stock ones were breaking because the top gear bushing was wearing so bad and causing issues with reverse/pads? Once we figured the top gear bushing thing out, were the brass shift pads really needed? If I remember correctly I used the stock pads for around 11k in my 2017. Without issue. I was watching the top gear bushing like a hawk then.

Brass shift fork pads are not needed with a good top bushing in the sprocket. If the bushing in the top sprocket goes bad, it could take out the shift pads. Theres nothing wrong at all with the stock shift fork pads, myself I'd rather have the stock plastic pads over the brass pads and would never use the brass pads in my machine as the plastic if eaten up will do no harm internally. The brass if chewed up would tend to do more damage if they break up.
