Hey All,
Im 90% sure the Apex is going to move onto another pasture to make room for a Viper. One of the two biggest struggles I am having right now is to sell the Apex outright and grab one for this season, or wait for 2015 to see what yamaha releases as the new model and/or snow check a viper.
On the one hand waiting will allow me to see if they release something even cooler, or hopefully have at least some of the 1st year issues worked out of the Viper while parting out the Apex in an attempt to try and recover even 50% of what I have dumped into her. On the other hand, I could sell the apex outright and be able to pick up a replacement now, without having to deal with the potentially long process of parting out, as well as having to miss the power of the Apex while riding the phazer for the remainder of the year… a project phazer that I am not sure if I have worked out all the issues yet.
Im really torn on this and have been spending way too much time and energy thinking about it! The starting issues some are experiencing worry me, but other than that the only other two 2014 issues I have are that its not available in black/blue (I was the first to post a photoshop on here with that color combo, saying thats what should be offered), and that I would have a hard time deciding between an RTX or LTX. I guess there is a third in that my local dealer really didnt handle my phazer balljoint issue well at all, and I would be concerned about warranty handling if/when the need should arise.
I realize I am in a sub-forum full of giddy viper owners, who might still be in the honeymoon phase with their machines, but Im curious to know your thoughts, even if it might only result in more indecision on my part!

I'd wait. Maybe they will have an Apex replacement next year. If they don't, you may be able to find a leftover Viper for cheap.

Sounds like you are the worrying type. Like others have said as well, I would wait a year if I was you. It will get better.

Digital I was in your shoes about 3weeks ago but for different reasons. I ordered my Viper last March and screwed up my knee while deer hunting in November and my Sled wasn't in yet. My decision was whether to take my machine or not and honestly it was a tough one. My Nytro had already been sold at that point, still had the wife's Fusion in the garage so I had something to ride if I was able to down the stretch. I was really torn but I ended up taking it, I had made a pretty good deal and didn't want to loose $500. That being said if I were in your shoes I would wait till spring and see what they come with. The next latest and greatest might have the more power you seem to be looking for and if it doesn't next year's Viper is bound to be more refined then the first go around. If we don't have any more issues then we are right now I wouldn't hesitate to buy a carryover in the spring either, depends how things pan out. Ride the Apex another year and sit back and watch the show is my vote. Right now just hoping I get to ride this year after my knee surgery
. Rehab is going well but have a long way to go.......

Im just the type who is on the intarwebs all day for work, and researches the crap out of any major decision, and sometimes the minor ones too. I couldnt sleep last night so I was surfing the viper forum, lookin for vids on youtube, and crunching some loan/downpayment numbers.
Go for it financing is available at 2.99% that won't be around next year with this wonderfull financial recovery we are in. I cannot believe there will be that many updates next year they always run 2 to 3 yrs before making change. The apex went even longer than that. Rx went 2 yrs then the mono shock in 3rd yr. then went to apex which was RX with fuel injection and the stearing post pushed forward other than that the same sled.

well, I've decided that if there is a dealer out there willing to do the red/blue color swap (black tunnel, blue plastics/seat) I'll pull the trigger. If not, then Im waiting till next year. If I am paying 12-13K for a toy that I can only use a couple of months of the year, then it had damned well better be at least be a color I like!

I'd wait, next year's Viper will be better as they will have discovered and worked through the minor issues. You'll also be able to see what comes out for '15. Might be something you like better and you can snow check. Generally you get a longer warranty when you snowcheck.
Who knows? Maybe Yamaha will finally replace the Apex? The Deltabox chassis is in its 12th year of production. No other OEM is offering a chassis that has been around that long. It wouldn't seem like it would be too difficult for them to offer a Procross chassis with an Apex motor. What would be pretty amazing would be a turbo charged Apex. I could see Cat doing that to replace the 1100T since they are dropping Suzuki as their engine supplier next year. That just makes too much sense.

Im pretty sure I'll be waiting. I contacted a half a dozen dealers asking about doing the black-blue combo. I've heard back from 4 of the 6 saying they cant do it because they dont have two machines to do it with. 1 of the 6 just never responded, and I only just contacted the 6th today, but it looks like they dont have two of the same machines in black and blue, only LTX and RTXs which would make the hood have the wrong badge if they were to swap. Not that I'd care, but I doubt they will do it.

Just heard from the last dealer. They'd do the swap for 800-900 bucks. He was trying to convince me to just have the tunnel painted and buy the one piece of plastic under the machine that's white.
Odd thing is that they are asking the same price for both the Ltx and the rtx, and both are about 900 bucks higher than the quotes I've got thus far.

well damnit!
They just called me back and said they would do the swap for no-charge. Their OTD price is still high, but them going the extra mile, and the very fast response time, makes that a wash for me.
I did say that if I found a dealer willing to do the swap, I'd pull the trigger... hmmm
