Hi. This is my first post to this forum. And now Im planing to get my first Yamaha sled.

Looked at Nytro for a long while, but decided to put some more money into it and go for a non turbo Sr viper. 15 or 16 models is what I can afford.

I've read all there is on the net, and looked for hours on youtube. But actually got more confused than wiser...

This is my needs / usage:

50% Family trips on trails out for icefishing, usually during spring with hard iceed snow in the moorning and wet snow in the afternoon. Water on lakes could also be possible. Wife and 3 kids will be towed.

50% Offtrail in all conditions up to 2,5' deep snow.

Not big mountains, but pretty steep and medium technical hills. With some wood in the hills.

I'm looking for a steady sled with some length on the belt.

What model could suit my needs?

STX-DX 146 (only 1,25" lugs and heavy)
BTX 153 ( havent seen one for sale in Norway)
MTX 153. (Ski stance 38" max)

I've fell in love with the genesis 4stroke reliabilety. But have not tried one yet. Anyone has an bying advice for me, that has the same usages themselves?
:sled1:

XTX would be my choice. Will likely need studs for ice. I wish Camso had an ice ripper in the 141 length.

Hi, XTX would possible be an option, but concerned if the 141" track is to short? Or is it a better to handle sled up the hills? I guess 1.6" lugs are a a good do it all belt? I will not use it on pure ice conditions, only wet snow that frozen during the night hours.

XTX and MTX 141" has the same ski stance up to 42" I see, is it any other difference in the front suspension set up?

Welcome!
I vote for 141” also. Add the hitch kit and overload leaf kit along with rail reinforcements kit.Look for model with coil spring rear shock.

My XTX is my do it all sled and the 1.5" cobra (1.6" is just the tiny tops of the lugs) is pretty good off trail as long as your not climbing big hills in fluffy powder. I wouldn't shy away from a 153" MTX either though if you don't mid swapping tracks, the 2.6" powerclaw is pretty easy to sell and the 1.75" Backcountry X is available in 153" which would suit your needs perfects (also available in 141" for the XTX)

That's a very nice Sled you Haul the family in ! :)

"50% offtrail in up to 2.5 feet of snow"
You be nuts to consider anything under 153 inches IMO.

On a side note, I just watched a movie on Netflix(The snowman) that was shot in Norway. I don't know what part of Norway, but holy, lots of snow and beauty scenery!

Yes, you are completly right. I had mixed up inches and feet when I converted from metric in my head. Its probably more like 1,7' (to be sure Im putting the right number, I mean max 50cm powder)

I'm not sure the 141" track is good for slush, hills and trees. I recommend the MTX 153, you'll probably love it in the powder.

To me it sounds like the stxdx146 is the machine for you, plenty of track length for flotation, has the bumper and rack for adding the 2 up seat or extra gear, can switch track to 1.6 ice cobra for the ice excursions.

True but heavier although by time done reinforcing 141 for utility it would be just as heavy.

About the weight for the STX DX 146, is the extra tank considered into the weight from yamaha? 320kg is a lot more than the other models... Can the coiled suspension, high windscreen etc... add that much?

I agree that the STX DX could be a good option, but weight and lug height scares me of a bit.... But there are some STX DX available for sale here... But need to change belt to 1.6 or 1.75 to be happy with it I think. And that adds cost... But of course I can try and test it this year, and save money to next season if new belt is needed. For trail it would be perfect for sure! but getting around offtrail...?

You may want to consider the VKPro for towing and the deeper off trail, and is not to bad for trail riding, this machine has the gears and is made to haul weight, not sure what the weight is on that tow behind for your family but I would say with your family in tow would not be light, if anything try to find a Vector XTX 1.75 lug, these machines are proven and good on fuel, as for a Viper.. hmm.... get the longest and best warranty your dealer will offer for this machine and better bring a 2 day survival kit and a Sat phone if you and your family go on a outing.

I have two Viper XTX's, and they are definitely do it all sleds, but I am not sure that they would handle the deep snow with the 1.6" track? It is unfortunate that Yamaha is not still making the Viper XTX, especially this year since it is a 146" skid in the Sidewinder XTX's.
