Do it yourself Turbo Part 2 (Testing)

Treewacker are you talking about the licence plate? If so in B.C. we have to run these plates, I just cut off the top and bottom so it would fit my tunnel. It used to say British Columbia and All Terrain Vehicle on it but its still butt ugly. They say you can do this but havn't had a problem yet. They also say we can't have custom ones made like some places do either. If thats not what you were talking about then I'm not sure what your looking at?

The place here is called "Parts Source". Pretty sure I paid $80.00 + tax for mine. Let me know if you want me to price it again for you.

Got the Shield around the Turbo done (Polished the part that you can see when you open the hood) Started on the gas tanks. I just drew lines on the original to dissect it and now I'll just cut out the triangles and weld them into place. Man this is one slow process. Oh well still no snow anyways.

Well my gas tank is coming slowly, have about 15 or so hours into making it now and about 10 hours just looking and trying to figure out what the hell I should do, but all the hard stuff is done. Went over to my buddies house and he milled out the adaptor for my fuel gauge. Fits perfect and looks factory. I'm trying to fill up as much area as I can so I don't loose any more gas then I have to. When I'm done building it I'm going to fill the stock tank and the one I built with water and accurately measure how many litres they both take to see how all my hard work paned out. Has anyone with an MC-Xpress checked to see how many litres or gallons their tank holds? I know they advertise about 1 gallon less but I would be curious as to what it really holds. I looked at the one my dealer has and it looks smaller then mine. Little here, little there, but it all adds up.

Well it took me about 25hrs of work but its done. Had several pin holes to fill but it looks good now. Filled up my stock tank to the lid and then filled my new tank. There is only 2 litres less in my new tank! That I can live with. 90% of the time I won't need to pack gas. So the slow process of filling every nook and cranny with gas tank was worth it. Now I can put it all together and shine her up. I'll take a picture or 2 when its all cleaned up and post them.

Man, you did a beuti job,I wish i had that kinda time,im sure it will be worth all that time and more when your done

The turbo and the factory gas tank want to occupy the same space. The Aluminum tank is shaped to accomodate the turbo's positioning.

Jim, here is the filter I used, I don't have the part # but it was for a VW. It fits in there perfect with a 3" straight piece of hose hooked to it. Our Canadian Tire had it on a rack where you can just pick it off yourself it was not behind the counter so it must be like a universal type one.
