Do you guys with RX1's experience track howl like RS's do?

I have two RX-1's one is a 04 mountain the other is a 05 shorty with ripsaw. I have rode both and the 05 is a lot louder than the my mountain with a much larger track. There is a problem with track noise. So out with the theory it is because of the quiet 4 stroke they both have the same engine.

Just thinking outloud. Is the ripsaw fully clipped or every third? Could it be the rubber of the nonclipped "windows" vibrating on the hyfax? I'm running the stock sucky finger track and 144 nails.

I wonder if the noisy tracks wear out quickly too.

Although I have quite a few miles on my sled, I would have thought the track would have lasted longer.

Even without the recent damage due to the suspension problem, the track was stretching badly and starting to show signs of structural failure (broken fibers starting to stick out between cracks in the rubber, etc.).

My 1997 Storm SE, with about the same hp and driven the same way (by me) has 6000 miles on the 9860 track (same as 9818).

The track on it is almost silent compared to the ripsaw on the 05 RX-1 and it is wearing very, very well. No stretching, no torn lugs, nothing. It looks almost new.

Every third.

This might be what I expereienced on my first ride out on my first rx1 this weekend. My sled was SOO loud at 30-50mph 5000-8000 rpm I could hardly stand it. Did anyone find a solution that worked?

We have 2 - 2004 RX-1's and noticed the track howl become
noticeable after about 300 miles or so. Both have the same noise,
and it appears, became louder as hyfax wore. I put M-10 rear
suspensions in both machines. The howling track noise is still
the same. The Arctic Cat Quiet track may be to only
solution

some people are cutting out the closed windows in the track. they claim it helps the noise and hifax wear. I did this this weekend but won't be able to test it until friday.

Yep mine was the same way new hyfax made it quieter. When I went 136" and put the quiet track on the noise is gone or at least so much less I dont notice it.Its fully clipped as well so I dont know if its the "quiet track" or being fully clipped but im glad its gone. But the fully clipped does roll much nicer especially in low snow conditions. No more sqeaking from the rubber rubbing on the hyfax.

I'm going to swap to a polaris edge skid and hope that cures it. From searching way back to 2004 it looks like there are two possible fixes:

#1) Polaris wheels machined to work on yammi skid

#2) Quiect track that is clipped, other clipped tracks may help

Lets hope the skid fixes mine!

I did the polaris wheels too, didnt change anything on my sled except they didnt fall apart like the stockers.

I even took two really small wheels that I have for grass dragging and mounted them up front on the rails right where the rubber bump stops are that didnt do anything for it either.

Wow that is good info Steve, if the edge skid doesn't do it then I think we can blame the track. I think its funny camoplast doesn't admit fault when they came out with a specfic "quiet" track LOL. I could see a bad batch of rubber or something that caused the problems intermittently. I'm hoping the edge skid solves mine and its a yamaha suspension issue but after what you just said I'm not feeling as optimistic.

So where did you get your quiet track and fully clipped? Thanks

Tracks USA,I think hes an advertiser on this site as well.

Cat has the patent on the track.I cant remember any of my other sleds(polaris)having the track howl but to be honest none of them were as quiet and smooth either, probaply just never noticed it.I do know that I never heard the skags cutting through the snow on any other of my sleds. If remember correctly cat put the quiet track on thier fourstroke and then the crossfire which is the one I have.

I am running a 1" fully clipped and the spoked rubber update wheels on my 05 rx and the noise is still there but alot quieter than before. I blame the harmonic resonance of the exhaust.

Track noise

I have only spent 20 miles on my 05 RX1 and I was very disappointed in how loud the sled was at low speeds. I will try new hyfax and see if it helps.
