Just wondering, does anyone that works for Yamaha actually read our posts? I would think that if they did this site would be a good source of marketing info. Is the sidewinder a good snowmobile, yes? Is it for everyone that is loyal to Yamaha, no. I have been on a Yamaha sled for a few years now. My first snowmobile was a 1976 GP 300. From then until now I have owned a few different models. Let's see, Phazer, Exciter, SRV, SRX, RX1, Apex, and now a couple Vipers sitting in the garage. How many, I couldn't tell you but would guess 20ish as there were multiples of many. You look at my garage and you will find Yamaha ATVs, Outboards, hell there was even a scooter in there at one time. The common denominator was always that I knew when I spent my money I could expect a well built, dependable piece of equipment that would last for years. I for one embraced the Cat partnership as it put the engine I could rely on in a chassis that helped it work.

The Viper is what it is, a competent trail sled that fit into the performance category I choose to stay in. With-that-said, why did Yamaha refuse to take the last few steps to make it a really good sled? All it needed was a set of good skis, a shock package that worked and didn't cost a couple grand extra. There really is no reason that if I buy a new Viper that I have to account for another $500 - $1,000 in extras to make it work. They say it is a value sled? Who here thinks $13K is a cheap snowmobile? Then in 2019 they just cut it out except in one version that still has all of the things that didn't work stuck to it. If there was one model, yes, an LTX would be the version I would choose. Why, for the love of god, did they not just put QS3s on it and a ski that works? If they would have listened to anything being said, by anyone in the sled world, the answer was evident. Not that they are the end all of the sled world, but this was the sled that made it to the finals of the "Real World Sled of the Year", not winning simply because of the skis and handling. Yamahas answer, lets take it out of production?
 

The trihub I think is a great example of how fast they react to real world feedback. There has been comments about the inadequacy of that design since the first viper. It took until the 2019 model year to address this one.

Oh oh oh, can Yamaha please make one more Viper with Ulmer clutches, a 1.35 cobra track, QS3s all around a pair of C&A razors under it and put my name on it? I will happily supply a delivery address or come pick it up when done!!

No doubt they read these forums, maybe they need to work on their reading comprehension?
 
Highly doubt it but no way to know for sure. So many different opinions how would they sort it out and why would Yamaha want to? R&D projects were planned many years ago so what we post now might be considered in the distant future if at all. Imo TY is for our entertainment and I don't expect Yamaha to react to anything posted. None of us know what Yamaha will do in 2020... new sled platform, continue with Textron or exit. So with all those options continue to have fun but don't expect Yamaha to react to posts.
 
The poles taken here on skis seem to have no effect on what comes on the sleds new.
Don't see opions here changing anything on what comes thru the show room from Yamaha.
 
They did offer an updated shock for the Apex and vector. I doubt they just dreamed that up one day. Sure they could do more but it's something. That something was significant for those that have that skid.

I bet that came from warranty claims and dealer feedback from customers.
