Does anyone ride with a Ski Doo BV2S helmet?

I've always wanted to try out those doo lids, but I have my HJC, CL-x3sn , CL-x4sn and CL-x5 all are dot & snell approved, and are the moto x style, I even have a couple of those cheap M2R moto x helmets that are also arroved by both, I know helmets save us all from lots of injuries, but I don't think there will ever be any helmet completly indestructable, as long as i'm warm and can see that's what I look for. just my .02

In my experience, I've found that a good (HJC) full-face with a heated shield, and contacts instead of glasses, is the most practical, and safe.

I agree with D.O. Like a tek-vest, that could prevent serious injury, or death as well, a helmet should be considered THE most important equipment you can have. But it has to function too.

It's a catch 22: Crash survivability, or crash preventibility???

People can have their own ideas about what makes a good helmet. If you are comfortable with your choice, and think you are safe, go with it. All of the tests in the world mean nothing when you get hurt. My preference has been my CL-12 xxxl, I use it on the street and on the sled. Yes it is only DOT approved, the smaller sizes have both, I feel safe. I also change my helmets every five years or so, they do ware out.

The only complaint that I have with the BV2S is getting it on and off, it actually HURTS to get on and off, mine is on the shelf and I switched to an FXR Adrenaline, best helmet ever even in the very cold.

Good Point....I forgot how much they hurt. They only hurt if the helmet is correctly sized. I was told that they are supposed to be that way.... :drink:

usin hjc cl-12 here. i wear glasses in mine and use it all year round. mine has the breath director removed and i like it that way. i dont stop very often so fogging is not usually a problem unless it is bitter cold out (-35c or lower) and then i just leave my glasses off to ride.

My father has one since two years, and fun thing is without the nose cone(and pads!) that he broke last year, no fog either even in -25 temp.

Cl-12 with a heated shield- never failed, also the CL-14 Kast is even better. Thinking about the new CL-15'S by HJC- can't seem to find the electric shield for them yet. The tinted lense is a plus though- :o|

I only wear a helmet mostly to keep my head warm. Reason being if I ever slam my head into a tree at the speeds I (and I know from experiance losts of other who post here) travel at. The only thing the helmet is going to do is keep my brains inside it. The impact will slam my brain so hard against the skull that I will die in minutes from my brain swelling up. There will be no time to save my life from that.

I wear a full face on my sled Dot approved 375 cd dollar hemet when sledding. Riding my bike I wear a open faced helmet I think its a Bel and I hate it. I long for the days when we used to scoot across the border into Manitoba so we could ride without our helmets. Those where the days!

I buried a long time friend (30 years), fellow bike rider and co-worker, a few short weeks ago. My buddy put together a honour guard of 48 bikes. Mostly old farts all of us (if 50 to 70 is old)! Well we rode lid less in prosession from the church to the cemetary and the cops on the way by streets they had blocked off to let the prosession though, saluted us. It felt good to ride without the lid again. It felt weird but good to be saluted while breaking the law. I thank Tom for the oppertunity to ride that way one more time. Thanks Tom for everything Man! Rest in Peace!

See that would be fitting to Tom he always hated helmets. Hated most forms of what he called oppression. He always wore a bennie type so he could hear things around him. He felt life was to short to always worry about when your going to die. He believed in living life his way not nessasarily the way everone else lived thiers. Helmets he'd say, we don't need no damn helmets. No his choice in helmets didn't kill him. He died peacefully in his sleep 60 years young. 10 years my senior!

So whats my point? Not sure exept that I buy a decent helmet (why buy junk) and I wear it. Law says I have too. Common sense says I should. On the sled its to damn cold without one. But when its warm in the spring. I still go for a blast on the sled, out at my Dads place on the lake with out a helmet just to listen to them pipes sing. I have no death wish but sometimes like Tom I think we just worry to damn much about wrapping ourselves up in armor to be safe.

Maybe I'm just getting old and remember lead paint, cars with no seat belts, and bikes with no helmets, and a mildred of other things that by todays standards should have killed us. But it didn't we survived and most of us without serious injury.

Honestly I bought a helmet based on whether it would be warm and whether it would stay fog free so I could see where I was going. I never even gave it a thought about DOT or SNELL ratings. I knew it was a fairly good helmet. Maybe a little overpriced. Bought it at the dealer paid way more then the 50 dollar DOT approved helmet made from plastic at Wallmart. That one I think would crack in half if you dropped it on the foor. What a mess that would make with your head in it. Yuck!

To be safety conscious is good (ie not try to kill ourselves) but I tend to drift off when comparing open face, full face and modular helmets safety wise. No offence to anyone about thier choice. I support your right to chose the one best suited for you. Allthough that cheap plastic one from Wallmart might not be a good one.

I used my friends bvs helmet last season for about 1/2 of a day. I think it takes a bit to getting used to it.
I did not have the mouth piece adjusted properly and it fogged up. i got that straightened out but i guess i must breath heavy because the tampon in the mouth piece was dripping out the front of the helmet and freezing.. that was kinda gross.

It is a comfortable helmet. the mouth piece takes some getting used to. loved the inner tinted shield.
if they could figure out how to get rid of that tampon thing in the mouth piece i think i would buy one, but for now i will stick with the old hjc

Hey Darth- is that helmet warm? Did you get the electric shield kit as well? Good looking helmet- I check the link and they have it in all black.
