The New Doo is truly sweet. To Drop 50 pounds off the REV was a huge accomplishment. That said the new Nitro RTX is flat out impressive. If it truly weighs 560 wet It would actually be 16.5 pound lighter then the 2007 Blizzard 800 and add electric start to the 2007 Blizzard 800 you put it at 599.6 or rounded up 600 pounds and this Four stroke Yamaha is 40 pounds lighter.
Now drop the 54 pounds off for the 08 XP Blizzard your at 545.6 equally setup. A difference of 14.4 pounds. You can't argue against that. The Doo is lighter and makes more power it should be a great Machine. However anyone who rips the Nitro RTX is just blind to what Yamaha actually did with this sled.

To be fair to the Doo, it's carrying around 23 lbs more of fuel (when using the 07 as comparison) and the new 800 also has 20+ more hp.
It's still very impressive numbers though considering that the engine alone probably weighs in at 30+ lbs more then the Doo's engine. I would guess that the Rev XP and FX chassis are pretty comparable in weight.
The question i'm asking myself is, what will AC and Pol do to fight these two impressive chassis/machines ?

I have a feeling Cat and Poo are in Huge trouble!!!!
Someone on Doo Talk said Yamaha was 120 sleds away from being the number one selling in 2007

I believe that was 120 sleds from the #2 spot. Not #1
I'd love to know the actual source of this sales # info...regardless of how it shakes out. Manufacturers stopped releasing this info to the media sometime around 2004 I believe. So I don't know how anyone on Dootalk or anywhere else for that matter would know.
But I'm all ears and very interested if the facts are indeed out there...pls show me a link, publication, or source if it exists. I've looked hard and have never been able to find it myself.

Doo sleds have RER which is electronic reverse. This adds on weight and is on pretty much all models. With that being said, I am a former Doo guy converted to Yami for 07. I think the REV XP is going to be very hard to beat if everything they claim is true! Guys that are riding them are saying the are mopping the Machs are the way from down low to teh top

Riding my warrior in the back country today got me thinking about the 08 yamaha sleds.I love the new NYTRO but no 136 cross-over,love the new vector cross-over but no 40th ANV colours. Then i climbed an impressive snow covered hill and came to a conclusion, the warrior can stay for another year.LOVE THAT SWEET SOUNDING MILL!

Sorry to go off-topic on the last post but i know why the doo,s are lighter,FRAMES MADE OFF THE SAME material used in cigarette foil inside the packs of smokes, very clever those boys up in quebec.Just tie the sled down in a windstorm. :ORC

Can't imagine Doo's RER weighing much. It's all electronics to get the engine to come to a stop and then go backwards. To bad 4 strokes can't run in reverse.

Check their clutches.... Normal secondary clutch doesn't work backwards - the engine's torque would immediately open the sheaves and the belt would drop and slip.

And that means what, the primary is the same and the secondary uses a compression only spring so the added weight comes from where. Or am I missing some thing.

One of the new Doo XP's was sitting in front of the dealership today. I had to stop in and take a closer look. WOW. Major weight reduction program. It was much more compact than the REV sitting beside of it. It doesn't LOOK very beefy. Lots of light guage metal. Webbing in a few places for strength. The casting under the bulkhead is also webbed as well. I'm not a materials engineer, so it is possible that it is very strong. It just looks weak to this old farm boy. The skid is a bit different, but didn't look as extreme as what they did in the front end. Plastics are very thin as well. Seemed pretty brittle when I pryed on them a bit, but it was fairly cold today. Guages and handle bars looked nice.
Kudos to Doo for the effort. They obviously figured out that they have to keep the weight differential from the 4 strokes large if they hope to keep their market share. Time will tell if they are too light. It will be a major engineering coup if they do hold up. Now if they could put a bulletproof motor in it, (600SDI maybe?) it would be a very tempting package.
P.S. I am still skeptical on the claimed weights for both the Doo and Yammie. They have lied every other year, what makes this one any different?

I believe this is why Skidoo released the new Rev XP before Yamaha...to take away from the release of the slimmer FX Nytro. It's called marketing. I'm sure if Yammy released the info on the Nytro before the Rev XP, people's opinions on the new Nytro would have been more favourable regarding the weight loss.
The new Nytro is an impressive sled, bravo Yamaha!

Now, fix the idler wheels and longtrack the skid for next year and I'll buy one.

You need to add the weight of electric start to the REV to get a fair comparison. Ski-Doo's RER is standard on almost every model and doesn't add much weight at all. I don't know how much electric starts adds but if someone wants to do the math that would be a much closer comparison. Also, wet weight is the only way to compare. I don't care how big the Nyrto tank is...how many people ride a sled with no gas or oil?
