GUYS..GUYS!!! Think what you're saying!! I've been yellow most of my life, but went to Yamaha because of THE FOUR STROKES!!! I'm done with two stroke garbage even if they weigh 5 pounds. Sure it'll be fast. Maybe a little lighter around the garage. But it's a stinky unreliable two stroke. It SHOULD weigh a lot less. Maybe ski doo is the one with the weights on thier hoods..LOL.
Where is Doo's lightweight HIPO 4 stroke? That would impress me. Not more F cat 2003 Cheeze Hype.

I think el start on the current Rev weighs 23# for the battery, starter motor, cabling & ring gear. Assumming the kit will be the same weight for the XP, the XP should weigh approx. 435# + 23# = 458#.

Father has a Ski doo legend and my buddy is a polaris warranty rep and you hit the button, the machine slows down to almost nothing and then starts up again in reverse. Will have to open the hood next time and watch.

Everybody needs to do full wet weights. That's how We ride them and that is all that should matter. JMO.

Yes...electronic reverse (RER = Rotax Electronic Reverse) is as follows: The engine electronically stalls and then restarts itself backwards from a dead stop with precision ignition timing and runs backwards. The secondary clutch is indeed a bit different than a normal non-RER secondary that non-reverse and 4 stroke sleds have...most notable difference is a special helix with short ramps that face the opposite direction of the normal ramps. This allows the clutch to run in reverse and even shift out a little bit while running backwards without eating the belt. RER system weighs a few ounces since it need really nothing but wires, switch (actually on Doo's it even shares the switch with the start/fuel rail charge button), a slightly different cut secondary clutch, and a small electronic control module to stall and restart the engine at the right time. Poo's system is nearly identical, I think they call theirs "PERC" if I recall. In fact I believe Poo bought the technology from Doo if I'm not mistaken. It's as close to a weightless reverse system as you can get, and will only work on a 2 stroke. It is not physically possible to run a 4 stroke engine in reverse. 2 strokes can do it all day long...
4 stroke sleds with reverse have no present-day option but to go to extra gears, linkage, weight, and complexity in the chaincase.

As long as we are on the weight issue,I have to comment on the amount of ice that builds up in the suspension,on the apex. There's a noticable difference in handling in one thats thawed out,to one thats built up with ice from riding all day.The scubby-doos don't get hardly any ice build up in thier suspension. I wouldn't want to see the difference in weight after riding for a day.

Actually, Doo gave the technology to Poo after a lawsuit settlement. heat exchanger up in the tunnel helps to get rid of that ice and snow.

Riding in 3 feet of snow here....once you sit for a while, the ice builds up, but a few good jumps and it's all gone..never had it build up riding..either on the RX or the Vector..non issue. Pound em harder, and lotsa things will fall off..lol.

I've been hanging out on this site waiting for Yamaha to make a sled that was right for me. I spend a lot of time in gravel pits building jumps, playing in the powder, then the next day I'll do a 200+ trail ride. So a Phazer would be a blast in the pits and an Apex would be great in the trails but an 800 Rev does both, so that's what I bought.
But now...the Nytro RTX FX has the seating position and suspension as well at a 130 HP engine!!!
Nice work Yamaha they filled the void in their line up and I think they are going to steal over a lot of Rev owners with this sled. I can't wait to ride one of those!!!!
As for the new Doo my hats off to Ski-doo for taking it to the next level as well. I think Doo and Yamaha have great 08 line-ups it's Cat and Polaris that I'm worried about, they seem to be falling further and further behind.

Just a note on this, there is hope for the very immediate future. Several companies are developing electricly controlled, solenoid operated valvetrains, I think the design was pretty much pioneered for automotive use by Valeo. Basically a valvespring holds the valve closed, and the valve is opened when the solenoid is energized. Last I read they hope to have a production version in an automobile by 2010. This type of valvetrain would allow a fourstroke to run in reverse, as it would be a simple programming issue. Think of the possible weightloss and potential for infinite and instantly adjustable timing curves. No cams, no timing chains and associated bits, no oil in the head, etc... Sweet freaking technology, hopefully it hits sleds someday.

Sledneck, what is F1's latest tech to run 20,000 rpm? I thought they had solenoids or something other than mechanicals to run the valve train.
The few pounds of mech reverse is silly to argue about. Gimme another colossal burger and it's all even..
Revster...while the Phazer accelerates well up to 50 or so, it is still a riot on a 206 mile ride, as we (ask Barnstormer) did a few weeks ago..could've done 300. This from just north of Utica, along the Tug to Stillwater reservoir...some was groomed nice, but not all. He was just fine. The Machz person was in a world of hurt...lol. (CK3, not rev).

F1 is around the 20,000 RPM value. They use a pneumantic system for valve control. The running a four stroke in reverse thing was briefly discussed around here once before. I don't remeber the specifics, but a certain Yamaha peep made a comment that it didn't work very well. Lead me to think they tried it but couldn't get it to work well enough to take it to production.
