To my knowledge, ANY sled is off a bit both on the speedo and the odometer. Most of this isn't the sled's fault, its track spin at higher speeds. And if one sled is off, the rest who were riding the same speeds would most likely be off by the same amount. I've used the odometer built into my GPS, and it shows that BOTH are off on my sled. When I ride with my friends (a couple Doos and 1 Cat) we are all pretty close by the odometer, but the GPS said we were all off.

I agree the odometer seems to be correct according to other sleds I ride with and the mileage signs on the trails. However the speedo is definitely off. While the mph gap increases with speed I think the % of variance remains the same. I belive the gauge calculates speed and mileage separately. Will removing the teeth mpact the odometer or just the speedo? Probably both, unless there is some other magical odometer pickup.

So if your MPH are less, would that make less miles on the OD? Where is the gear located at? I think i would rather have an accurate speed reading.
yeah, where is the pickup gear and how hard is it to get to?

Very easy to do. Remove the secondary clutch and there it is below the jack shaft on the end of the drive shaft. Just remove the bolt holding the little gear on and grind the teeth off. A new gear is about $15 so if you are unhappy with the results it won't kill you to go back to original. And if it does reduce the odo reading, like Jeff said you sled will have lower mileage and be worth more.

Thanks Buckeye! I might just grind one and see what happens.
So do we grind one or two off ?
If two I assume they are across from each other ?
Was there a post on this before , did a search and I cant find one

SIMONS CPR said:remove two teeth from pickup gear, (comes with 15, you make it 13) (.87 is what the teeth differential comes to) 180 degrees apart, speedo is nearly right on. jeff
Jeff says 2 teeth 180 degrees apart, so I am going with that.
There were seceral posts about this more than a year ago. They may have been lost in the crash.
should of seen Jeffs post

I have an 05 RX1 and my buddy as the 03. He removed one tooth from his pick up gear and after an identical ride, our odometers read as follows... my sled 112.7kms... his sled read 104 kms, my guess is yes, it does make a difference on both the speedo and odometer...
