Okay got a 07 Apex with 3600 miles and it looks like just like my SRX the bearings need changing out around 4500. For those of you who have done them are worn or got rust etc..I did a upgrade with grease zerts to my SRX so I could grease them whenever I wanted. Here is the link. Once I do the Apex hopefully I can do the same type of thing.

Have a look I got some pics of the speed side cover with zert also.

I thought the chain case bearing gets oiled from the splashing of chain case oil?

Srx

I dont know about APEX but the SRX does not, as a natter of fact the seal faces the gears. With the mileage the APEX's are getting on bearings Id say they are designed the same way.

The only drive bearing I have changed is the bearing behind the speedo. I pop the seals off and grease that one and the jackshaft bearing above it during the season. Never had the chaincase cover off yet. I will this fall; changing the chain, checking the gears, and will be changing the 2 chaincase bearings, jackshaft and drive bearing on opposite side.

Is this the first time for you changing chain 2 chaincase bearings, jackshaft and drive bearings? If so that's good for 17Kmi.'s Just wondering so I can plan on when I should do the same.

First time will be this coming fall for chaincase and jackshaft bearings and chain. But I always cleaned and greased them and changed chaincase oil with synthetic oil often. I change the driveshaft bearing every year.

This time around

Yeah Ill prolly do the same. Ill pop off the seal, grease then re-install seal as they are not bad yet BUT when I do have to change Im doin some type of grease zert mod so I dont need to tear down.

I thought I read here the bearings are in oil on chain case side? Favorcat is talking about the clutch side as well.
I just finished geaseing them on the secondary clutch side.

grease fitting on speedo housing

I was thinking about putting a grease fitting on the speedo plate as well. What stops me, is the worry that overzealous greasing could push the seal out on the track side of the bearing?

What do you think?
