Just returned from a great weekend in Northern WI with the XTX (<600 miles on it). Unfortunately the trip was supposed to last another two days. Last night crusing down the trail (50-60mph) and a horrible grinding noise started coming from the low left side of the nose. Cleared the ice, reset the belt, and still was grinding.

Limped it the last 1/2 mile to the trailer and just as we tried to pull it on to the trailer, BOOM, the grinding turned into a squeal and the sled will not move forward. Crazy thing is that you put it in reverse and it works fine.

Anyone else had this go out on them?

:o|

No problem here,1000 Kms on it just a really whiny chain case after you tighten it up.

I take it the sled is at the dealer? Will be interesting to hear the outcome. Good luck!

Are you just thinking its the driveshaft or did you look and see it broke ?
Could be the brake or a bearing maybe but I'm thinking something is going on with the brake !
Post back with what they discover !

When I hit a stump off trail it ripped front half of disk guard off this allowed snow in brake froze tight enough that I smoked belt a bit after it sat for awhile. Hope it's just the brake froze.

right, I was about to ask when the last time your chaincase tension was checked?

300 mile service was done right before the trip by the dealer. So if they did the service correctly that should have been done. Its going back to the same shop that did the service today so we will see what they say.

Seems that everyone that has has chain case problems have had the 300 mile service or has tightened the chain. Like i have said in other posts backing it out 1/4 turn after hand tight is too hard. It needs to backed out at least one full turn.

I will put money on it that that will be changed in the Yamaha manual next year!

They were supposed to get to it today and I didn't hear anything. I will follow-up tomorrow and post what they report.
