Not sure if you remember but You Randy Rock Nick and I had stopped at that corner and flipped my sled up on the side to see how they were doing and they looked great. 2 days and 150ish miles later they looked like my picture.

Right.... but overall final mileage was not bad. I know mine went fast and wondering if it was because of the same reason...once that Teflon was gone they went so fast we didnt realize...When I saw them with you they looked like new... they mist have been warn further then we thought to get thru that Teflon insert.
Anyone that runs these slide needs to pay attention to the wear not just toss them on and not worry. Just my thoughts. I am trying to figure out why mine went so fast... loose track?? different track with cheese grader clips.... not sure... LOL, Just like to know how to slow it down or find a solution to help others.

The vespel inserts have 2 small holes that are just over 3mm deep so I'm thinking the vespel could be 4-? thick. With the sled in the air it is easy to check the hole depth with a small punch or screwdriver. Once it has worn flush (no hole) may be they are done??

Yes thats what I figure, teflon was very close to wearing through, then just went all of a sudden once it was gone. I will go measure and see if I can determine just how thick the teflon is when new so the guys will have an idea of when to worry.

Ok the teflon is .196 thick or 4.98 mm for you metric guys. It wont wear all that distance however as when it gets thin it breaks and comes out of slide.

It sounds like the better solution is to install larger idler wheels...eliminates the need for the Dupont sliders. My Dealer hasn't been able to order them for the last 2 years anyways.

Running Excell X Wheels, on my '12 I went thru the factory hyfax in 150 miles with crap conditions. Put them on and very little wear for the remaining 600 miles or so in the same crappy conditions last year. This year on my '13, transferred those wheels onto my sled and with good/bad conditions very minimal wear on the factory hyfax. Biggest area of any noticeable wear is in the middle of my 144" track on my Apex XTX.

Yes I agree.
I want to clarify earlier when I mentioned I get 3500 to 4k out of the renagade slides, thats with the bigger polaris wheels on my rx1. I put 17k on that sled so lots of time to try different setups and slides.
I still have the OEM wheels on the Attak as they are holding up good at 8000ish miles with bi-seasonal greasing(needle greaser will fit). Im going to find some slightly bigger wheels though for it as well.

One must wonder if they are that much better than the graphite hyfax. I had 2000 miles on the last set and they had 20% left, but they were at that for 100s of miles and hadnt changed. These are on my 2007 Apex and 2007 Attack but they both have extra wheels. The sleds have one set of extra wheels at the front on the bend each and one set half way between the rear most factory wheels and the rear axle. None of my wheels are oversize.

TIE THOSE DUPONT SLIDERS TO THE STAKE AND BURM EM, THEIR WITCHES I TELL YA. Come on people, 1 person burns through a set and now they are junk. I put 130kms on mine Saturday and I feel a noticeable difference in the way the sled performs, they freed up a lot of friction on the track clips. Sled glides so much easier now, may even gain a few MPH (watch out now Mike Knapp LOL). Nothing lasts forever but if they go 2500 miles it is worth it IMO. It should be easy to gauge the wear on them also.

I agree they roll easier, and as I mentioned I picked up a slight MPG increase. The roll comming up to a stop required me to actaully use my brakes as they are definatly more slippery. The whole reason for me posting was to make everyone aware that when they go they go FAST, If I can save one person from a trip cut short or a ruined set of rails it was worth it.
The teflon I believe in, it just simply needs more of it or at very least not so soft of a base material. Personally I will use the money difference that I wouldve spent on another set and buy some slightly bigger wheels, Ive had good luck with them in the past.

I was seriously thinking about getting a set but at $120.00 for the pair, I think I will definitely put it off now!
Like what was mentioned above, I also thought these would last for miles and miles or years and years but that clearly isn't the case.
Also, like you mentioned, sounds like the host part is just regular weak plastic and not real hyfax material so maybe Yamaha/Dupont also thought these would last forever too?
Thanks for posting this up and saving me some money!

Ya you would think for the price they are charging for the damn things that they wouldn't have cheaped out on the actual hyfax material by using cheap plastic!! They should have used graphite with the vespel inserts!!!
Just wish Yamaha would start fixing some of their boo-boos, like, why after "eight years" are the Apex's still burning the hyfax's anyway??? Fix the problem then we wouldn't have to spend 120 bucks on slides & bigger wheels at $$$, we could just buy the regular hyfax for $18 a pop!!

What I have done is purchased Pionneer Hyfax Extender Wheel Space kit and using dupont slides. You can retain stock yamaha wheels while using Pionneer wheel kit. I did buy new wheels just for the purpose of repalcing bearings. I have only put 200 miles on slides so will see during the give away ride how they perfrom. Going to pick up oem slides just in case there are problems.
