Looking for opinions if it would make any sense to run a dupont slide on one side and standard hyfax on the other. Idea is of course to get a better representation of how they hold up against each other while running under the same conditions. I know one side would still wear different than the other but I don't know how one can really assess the dupont slides because of the obvious effects of riding conditions from one set to another. If the darn things weren't so expensive, I'd just give them a chance.

Would this be a waste of time?

Thanks,

Smurf

I dont think your wasting your time by doing this test, people might be really surprized with the results.

I saw a couple of threads where the Duponts wore down to the point where the inserts fell out or they melted out from heat and what was left was nothing to protect the rail.

I personally think you should do it. Once the standard hyrax wears out, replace it and keep track of how many standard slides you go through compared to the DuPont slides.

The duponts are well worth the money. Last season on one weekend trip at camp we had hardpack conditions with very minimal dust. I had new std black yamaha slides on my 13 vector and my father had the duponts on his 11 apex. I burned two sets down to the rail in less than 300 miles and finished the weekend on my 3rd set which were just about toast. I never expereienced anything like this. I was adjusting limiter strap, and trying different track tensions only to conclude that it was just conditions that caused it. I went through this hasssle......meanwhile my dad's dupont slides showed no wear at all in the 500 miles we logged in. We both rode the same exact 500 miles so it was a direct comparison. After that weekend I became a firm believer in the dupont slides.

Duponts are the real deal. If the cost sinks your ship take up bingo!!!!!

i run the dupont slides, and i ran in near road hard ice conditions with 0 lubrication, with no scratches( Broke from backing up) for over

My new to me 12 xtx has dupont slides, the wifes 13 Apex has the graphite, we ride mile for mile together, Not the same test but Im waiting to see the differences in the 2 sleds. First season for this. Northern Wisconsin trails only.

I do believe that is what has happened on my Phazer. The front has worn almost to the rail now. But this is after nearly 1500 miles though too. I actually lost track as it spanned more than one season. Normally I have to change at least once per season. So the Vespel inserts held up quite a ways, but it is just showing signs that it needs to be replaced. The Apex has at least that many miles if not more on it's set, and they are going strong.

Like before, a person just has to monitor them. The hyfax itself burns like any other once the vespel inserts are gone.

I have 135mm wheels with low snow wheels and my regular slides have lasted over 8000km and still going.

Where to begin? Duponts last 6 to 8 times longer then standard hyfax. Yes at some point they wear the inserts right out. In my case around 3,800 miles. Stock hyfax lasted 500 miles. My 11 has the stock wheels and when sitting on the concrete floor I can spin the wheels because the weight of the machine is sitting on the hyfax. Hello! Who engineered that?

I ran my sled down gravel roads in the spring and on trails that where frozen rock hard at cruise speed. I past guys that where constantly diving off trail because their slides where melting because of no lube. I ran them till the last three inserts came out and ran them another couple hundred miles. Then because I had a couple trips planned I changed them. Duponts work and yes they are expensive. If standard hyfax gives you 5,000 miles then you have no need, if your fat and running a 2011 slide burner that eats slides for breakfast then buy them.

I hate the low snow wheels as everyone I have rode with it seems has broken or lost them. I could have bought larger wheels for the cost of duponts but heavy sled with heavy rider at 110mph still equals very hot sliders. I have run duponts at high speed on a plowed road with no lube and still found them to be cool to the touch when I stopped to turn onto a sled trail. They just don't get hot because they are more slippery then hyfax. I love my duponts!

I would do the test but changing one slider every second ride would get old real fast!

As a note if dupont put three more inserts in the slides I could get another 1,000 miles easy on my XTX!
