cannondale27 said:I dont believe that once inserts are gone the slides wear any faster than a regular slide. Why would they since its made of same material? Like I said before. Just raise sled rear and run your finger under the slide. You will feel if a insert is gone and then next ride replace the slide. Dont worry about a measurement since the slides never have or will wear straight across. Insert will be held in for many mi. These slides do give you piece of mind since stock slide doesnt stop wearing till almost nothing is left.
Are you 100% certain that the base material of construction is the same as the standard slide? I had heard that it was not. Can anybody confirm?

Thats what the advertising says so it must be true! Dont know since mine are nowhere near falling out after almost 3000 mi this year.

I ended the season with 2400kms on the dupont's and ran them through some slider killing conditions. WOT for miles in minimal snow, lots of side road sand crap and some spots where only Atv's should go. All the inserts are still in and they should hold up for the grinder rides at the beginning of next season. The host material is different color/texture than the factory slides so I would say it's different. Expensive but I will put on a new set every season, peace of mind for me.

Thanks! Others have also said that the base material is different than the standard slides and that this different material does not wear well without the inserts. Perhaps Yamaha thought that it didn't matter if the base material has poor wear properties since the inserts prevent the base material from wearing rapidly. This would explain why some have reported rapid wear after the inserts are gone.
Even if the base material was the same, when the last bit of insert falls out that will leave uneven cavities in the insert holes for dirt and rocks to collect and slide and grind on the remaining slide. So IMO, Yes, I would think that the wear would be greatly accelerated.

I agree. Will look for the base material. I believe the catalog says what it is.

Total now is 3,050ish miles and still have inserts. As a guy that is hard on sliders I'm impressed with the Duponts and would recomend them to anyone with extreeme slider wear. I have rode rock hard snow that had everyone else scrambling off trail looking for some lube because thier slides where cooking while I just rode down the trail with no burning no sticking no melting of slides. I have rode down icy roads that had no snow on them at all while others hit the ditches. I just stayed on the road at 60mph and smiled.
I don't know where the track clip wear rumor started but I heard it again today from a kid who said his buddy on a Cat said it wore out his track clips. Mine have no wear that I can see! Kid told me the Dupont where to hard and thats why they wear clips. I showed him my sled which was in the back of the truck. Clips look like new! As the Yamis are the heaviest sleds on the snow if clips are going to wear the Yami should be more then able to destroy them!
Say what you will Duponts work!

I have to say LOV MINE...ZERO WEAR so far with the both of us on it most of the time, ya the clip thing for me is Showing Nothing maybe it's just the Boosted Sleds???
NO DOUBT ill be running Duponts for a Very Long Time unless something major changes, hard not to like what im seeing so far .

I agree the clips dont wear. Just polishes them. I have a 1.5 track fully clipped with the little holes in clips. Just try them and quit worrying. They will make slides something you dont really need to worry about other than a quick check once in awhile. Yamaha did good here.

It is not the track clips that wear as you pointed out.
It is the rubber on the track on those tracks that are not fully clipped.
Not an issue for all it appears but it is for some.
I believe your track is fully clipped so you will not have any issues.
I'm liking my Duponts due to the decreased rolling resistance.
I get many thousands of miles out of factory slides so wear not really an issue for me.

In this thread there is references to clip wear and on Hardcore sledder I think it was I saw some blurbs about clip wear with Duponts. Lastly a kid in a fast food drive through told me his buddy said it wore out his clips.
I see no wear on mine in 3,050 miles! Also at 16mm thickness the inserts are still in.

So, should I invest in some even though I don't have a fully clipped track?
I still have about 14mm in most places (nothing less) on stock OEM white slides and being since the skid is out, I am/was thinking of replacing them with Dupont's,,,, or using my OEM's another year?

Run the stockers till they are gone then change. Its easy enough to do with suspension in. Doesnt make sense to waste good slides till gone.

I would install the Duponts simply to be able to ride on glare ice or plowed roads without having to worry about melting slides. You will have noticeably decreased rolling resistance in many poor snow conditions.
