08 Vector LTX here. I put 3500-4000 miles on a set of slides, this is also with the stock track with every third window closed . I just ran the track loose. Probably could have got another 1-2000 but had the skid out, had the slides laying on the bench and decided to change them for piece of mind.
were they dupont?

Nope, they were stock yamaha slides.

I have some ordered.Of course they are on back order again!
All my wheels are like new so decided to go this route instead of the excels.I agree though the stock hyfax wears right to the line and stops.Really no reason to do it other than if tying up a lot of cash to trailer way up north would hate to have trip ruined by the paper thin protection the stock wore in slides provide.Riding locally I would not worry and save the money.

I have just over 5000kms on the original slides and they are still good. No melted plastic on any of the track clips either. Here is a pic of my wheel set up.

Holy wheels Batman!

I was also considering putting another set of low snow wheels near the rear, but with a 121 inch skid, I am not sure if it is doable?

Make sure the big upper wheel does not contact the low snow wheel when the suspension compresses fully. A friend put a set on his Attack and blew both little wheels off on the first big bump.

I have the same set up as sx7001 except I don't have the small wheels. I went with the Pioneer wheel kit that lowers the stock wheels. That kit will allow you to add the wheels in the above picture that are just forward of the very back wheels. Adding the lowering kit will prove effective enough that you won't have to add any of the very small idlers. Also, the cost of two sets of those small wheels is more money than the Pioneer Kit. Also, I've had bad luck with two sets of those small wheels coming off; loctited and torqued. Lots of times they freeze up from all the snow/ice build-up and refreezing and they stop rotating; wearing a flat spot. Two of mine eventually disappeared somewhere on the trail.

Why do you need the lowering kit to add the rear wheels??

The lowering kit frees up a stock set of wheel brackets. That means you don't have to buy a set.
