There was talk about doing some dyno comparisons on some of the clutch kits offered for the Apex on this site - how about some dyno comparisons on the top aftermarket exhaust being offered for the Apex as well? - Excell has their dyno numbers on their web site - Whitknuckle, Hauck, Bender, and the others seem to be harder to find - db readings would be nice to have also - what do you think?

Well I'd post our numbers for you, but I don't have anything in front of me and most people wont' believe what you show unless it's done independantly. We spent 3 months on the dyno, and our exhaust either matches the stock curve, or is about 2 horse. I have some runs at 2 horse, and some runs were it's a half horse, to even, to 1 horse. We worked hard to just get back to stock in all honesty. I'll have them up on our web when I can get to it.
"Decibel numbers might be harder to get. I'll be dead honest with you guys. You are not going to get good acurate decibel numbers from anyone. And you are not going to be as quiet as stock. I do not care what anyone tells you, you CANNOT buy an aftermarket exhaust and expect it to be whisper quiet. Look, they are half the weight of stock, how can you expect them to be quiet. We try to get them as quiet as we can, but there is only so much you can do. Volume equals sound, less volume=more sound. You guys who buy or think about buying aftermarket exhaust all know what you are getting into. Yes there are some that are louder than stock, but still acceptable for the trail. Then there are some that are not. The guys who are trying to make an effort to make something that is quiet enough for the trails have a hard time keeping up with the ones who make loud #*$&@ because we spend 10 times more in development and build costs.

In regards to the exhaust...from what you are saying, all you are offereing is a weight reduction and more noise. No performance gains to be had...and if you tried to make it quieter, it would make less power than stock?? Weird how a free flowing exhaust could make less power? My bike (ZX9R) makes more power on the pipe....and not 'too' much noise.

Cool - where on your site are the dyno numbers for the Apex exhaust? - I seen the dyno run, but no numbers - let me know - thanks

a guy i know had white knuckle exhaust, holy #*$&@"was it loud, what a sweet sound it was,and everybody was rubber necking to see what the hell kinda machine it was ;)!

Rocket is being truthful here.

I ran whiteknuckle on our RX -1 last year. it is louder than stock, but I liked the sound, and the exhaust was good quality.

We did test a few exhaust on dyno ...what he says is true.

The free flowing exhaust systems do start to help a bit more if you have porting and bigger camshafts, but on stock machines..I say you can take his word to the bank.
..AND ..be careful that you are not really losing hp by opening exhaust up. I know this sound a bit contrary to what we have always done on other vehicles, but that is what we witnessed.

I don't doubt that - when you would put a aftermarket silencer on the SRX's you would loose some power - the Apex don't sound that bad in stock form - a little bump in HP would be a bonus!

I think the stock exhaust is plenty loud.. above 50mph i cant hear the people talking on my communicators!

But i do love the sound of the aftermarket exhausts!!

ROCKET... good honest post!!

Id be happy to lose a couple horsepower to have a exhaust as quiet as the vector on my Apex. I think the Apex exhaust is annoying after riding for a while. Yes it sounds badass but I dont care for it all day long

TT670, I'm with you on the exhaust noise issue. It's not bad as long as the r's stay above 6500, but below that on badly moguled trails it gets very tiresome. The FST is much superior on this one issue. Noise doesn't necessarily make for fast.

I'm not expecting an aftermarket exhaust to be quite - nor am I expecting it to develop a bunch more HP - the dyno results show you how the power curve changes which is nice to know when you start dialing in your clutching - some of these pipes raise mid range HP 6 to 8 HP and the peak extends 100 to 300 RPM - to take full advantage of that, you are going to adjust your clutching - not looking for a pipe that is quieter than stock and give me 10 more HP - I quit believing in Santa Claus along time ago!!!

well I can't speak for others, only my own
our exhaust is basically a replica of the stock curve, only 2 hp higher. The torque curve is carried out a few hundred further than the stock curve and is a little higher in places and lower in others.
I just have not had the time to put something together and up on the web.
I would think generally speaking that you will see pretty much the same from all exhausts, and your really should need a big clutching adjustment.
