Anybody here seen the dyno results from Dyno tec on the newer apex (2011-13) herd some conflicting reviews from being under powered (150hp) to (160+ hp after break in or about 2000 miles)
Anyway prhaps someone could post the actual test if they have it , It also is suppose to contain results on super/turbo charger and after market exhaust compared to stock
Either post it or pm me thanks

Yes the claims of 150 HP seem to be the norm. That first 2011 Apex that created all the hoopla a few years back (163 HP) was a "preproduction" unit with lots of miles. Since then, various production units haven't been able to match that number. I don't want to step on anyone's toes by posting actual results from Dynotech but, once again the 2013 unit they tested made 150HP.

It is likely that after breakin they will gain some horsepower. My 06 felt noticeably stronger after the 1,000 mile mark. But expecting a broken in model to gain 13 horsepower in NOT realistic. 3-5 HP gain would be more reasonable.

It needs to be kept in mind that the changes between the 06-10 vs 11-13 as far as modifications to increase hp were not that extensive. Slightly more aggresive cam timing (from what I remember) and the exup exhaust valve (which is more for midrange power than topend). Regardless, the first gen apex's were generally in the 147 range out of the crate and improved to about 150 with some break-in miles. If the 2nd gen apex's are making 150 out of the crate and improve to say 153-155 hp, that would seem to be within reason. Also, some of the aftermaket guys have gotten them very close to 160 with very minor mods.

If that first preprod unit really made 163, is Yammi holding out on us? Makes one wonder. :dunno: Maybe the next rendition will truly be 160+ in production form.

If I remember correctly the 162 was after a fuel controller and maybe a couple other minor adjustment's.

2012 shootout numbers from Yamaha shows Nytro at 129 HP and Apex at 148.1 HP

The 163 HP done a few years ago was with PCV fuel controller and some intake mods, including increased airflow and shorter intake stacks and some timing added.

They claimed a pre-production machine thing, but it was brought to the dyno by a dealer from Maine who pulled a fast one over on someone I'd say.

Should have never been used in Yamaha's marketing. Its still a 150 HP sled. No way to get 160 without some mods.

I didn't have alot of details about that preprod unit but, that makes ALOT of sense.

You can call it what ever HP you want, bottom line is a box stock newer Apex will run toe to toe with a BOX stock (if there is any) 12 Cat Turbo at claimed 177 HP.
Point is I wouldn't set my watch by claimed HP number's.
And if you ride a pre 11 Apex and then a 11 or newer Apex you will not believe there is only 2 or 3 HP dif. Much smoother power delivery, more responsive=bigger smile!

I have talked to the dealer who did the dyno cheats or whatever you want to call them on the 2011 Apex from my understanding some Bulls eyes from D&D were uesed and if I remember right some of the D&D guys were there also. They also messed around with a resistor of some sort that made the ECU think it was like 20 degrees colder out so the fuel would get richer. Matter of fact I posted about this same "Kit" used to this day. He has done a few other things to the kit and the airbox mod is something like Ulmer Racings modded airbox instead of the bullseye, was told to keep the cost of materials down, and the resistor us used in the "kit" now not a PC5. Already checked but my self I went with Ulmers Racing PC5 and the knowledge and R&D that I know Allen put into the map for the PC5 not just some resistor to wear out or burn out or worse. I was also told later in the test they actually saw almost 165 hp in later dyno runs. This was a actual conversation that took place with a well known and respected Yamaha performance guru.

Looks like maybe 1-2 from exhaust.
That's expensive power!

I've always been ticked off that Yamaha, and all the mags, use that 163 HP number on all the advertising. It is simply BS, not a stock sled, but very typical of Yamaha marketing. They used untrue HP numbers to advertise the Viper motor over the SXR 700 also. Both sleds run great none the less, but why do they have to be so deceitful?

The Viper was nothing compared to the SRX 700 in my opinion box stock. Now add some triple pipes and stuff to the Viper and it could be a monster.

I have been in the Apex game from the beginning and I always thought it was called a 150 up class sled stock.

It is interesting that the Cat Turbo can't bury it. Not like they didn't have years to study what they needed.
