xtx - 4-tec comparison

There's one thing to note here about the 4-tec and it is this. I don't think the balance will be right, since this is there first crack at the performance 4 stroke in a sled. It took Yamaha a while to figure that out. If it's balanced right, it feels alot better. The motors are heavy, you have to get them balanced right in the sleds. Second, BRP has to make it a 1200, just to run with Yamaha's 1050, because when they tried to match it for CC, it was outgunned, so they had to give it more displacement. Thrird, it's a BRP motor and sled. It will have issues.

my test ride

I also test rode the 4-tec 1200 last march.
It did seem to push and felt more heavy than my Nytro.
Maybe it was the warm day and corn snow conditions.
A younger guy riding in front of me also on an MXz 4-tec 1200 pushed right off the trail into a tree. (funny stuff after the speech from the BRP staff telling us to go easy on $25,000 proto models)
The 4-tec ride was much more laid back and softer.
I ran it hard through some very deep and rutted spots.
I found it difficult to stand up quickly through that junk.
And the 4-tec bouned along kinda like a touring sled.
Although it was comfortable and it performed better than the Nytro in the fast sweeping corners. (open fields etc.)

After the test ride I jumped back on my 08 Nytro.
I hit the same spots at same pace.
It went or seemed to go faster through those rough spots on the Nytro.
Easier to stand up and hit that stuff and way better low end power.
Clutched way better too.

I really like these 4-stroke machines.
I was on the fence and I like that BRP stands behind the product with regular updates (warrenty).
While I feel Yamaha totally dropped the ball last year in that area.
This made it very difficult choice for moving forward.

So with more money out of pocket than neccesarry.
I went with an 09 XTX.
The choice was mostly due to that 1050cc motor and that I learned to ride that Nytro very well.
Once you learned the limit of where that tip over would happen...
You needed to muscle the Nytro back down in the corners.
Yes, it did give me a few heart pounding momments.
But once you had it figured out, man it was fast.
Best sled I've ever owned... Honestly!
It just scared too many people and that stuff got blown way out of proportion all over the internet.
You couldn't let someone who was use to riding another sled just jump on it without giving them the "take it easy" speach or the "you need to get your body over the front of this sled" speech or "stand up as much as you can" speech. I let allot of guys try it last year and only 2 figured it out.
The rest of them were like "Oh my god, this thing scared me."
Even I took at least 1000kms or more before I figured it out.

Too bad really... I give Yamaha some credit for trying to go so radical but it may have been too much too soon for everyone out there.

In the end.
I believe Yamaha has some very cool stuff coming in the chassis department so I'm going to hang in there with team blue for now.
