ECP filter setup (Flatlanders)

ecp filter set-up (flatlander)

Otis rx- This will be the best thing that has ever been reported on the side by side comparison of filters vs. stock. There are a number of us who have been waiting for a real world comparison. Please make sure and post the results so we can all see what this midrange gain in hp translates into in an actual race. Try some run-ons, or rolling starts if you can. That should give us a picture of the added hp in the 6-7k rpm range. I have the Simon's stage 2 setup and have not yet put in the ecp kit so my machine could be a good before and after comparison. I can't make it this weekend but maybe later in the season we can give it a go? I do most of my riding in northern NH so I never registered in mass. How are the registry mounties out in your neck of of the state? Tx, and please keep us posted. - Longshot

Better yet....... Freddie, send one of the boys up to OTIS RES. this weekend. RT 8 North into Mass. The lake has 8" of ice w/1" firm snow and is mint for drag racing.

Otis...it is not my place to tell my customers where to go. I could and have at times told non customers where to go though!

But all kidding aside. Being that you are so close to my shop, why don't YOU make the effort to come down here and see for yourself why the gains are so big with the use of my air kits? I'm afraid that I have very little time in my schedule to accomodate you but perhaps this can be done.

Better yet yourself...I'll tell you what. You come down to my shop. I will predyno your sled in stock condition. On the dyno, we will install the kit and then make the after dynoruns in a step by step method just as I did with "Ride Blue". If the air filter kit fails to perform, there will be no charge for the service and I will put your sled back to stock condition just as it arrived. However, if it does perform as I state (and lot's of other people) you pay me double for the dyno session and regular price for the kit.

No...that would be robbery and I couldn't sleep well knowing that I stacked the deck against you. Just come down, I will give you the "cheesecake tour" of what we have done so far on the dyno and if you want we could do the before and after program and I will just charge you my regular prices.

Freddie

The Mounties should be nowhere in site this weekend. I hope. The trails are closed and really there's no snow to ride anyway. Unless you own water front property your access is very limited.
The lake is in "PERFECT" shape for flat out drag racing.
I spoke with RIDE BLUE this afternoon and he thinks he'll make it on Sunday. He has the ECP's, Heelclickers and a TEAM clutch also so the match between his and mine will tell a lot. I'm missing only the ECP's.
I know his clutch set up so I'll change mine to match.

The door is open for anyone who wants to join in the fun. Check out a road atlas and find OTIS, MA. Far western part of the state, southern portion approx 8-10 miles from the Conn. border. All are welcome unless things get out of control. No Idiots or pets please. My 120lb german shepard plays very rough, but loves snowmobilers!

SUPERTUNER...... love the offer. We were crossing posts a minute ago.
You'll see from my earlier post that Ride Blue should show up this Sunday which will tell everyone the story behind ECP filters. This could be a big wind fall for you if they run like we hope they will.
I believe what you're saying about the dyno numbers, but, does it make enough of a difference, I don't know, but we'll find out! The tach just spins right by the mid range HP numbers so fast that it's hard to understand why the sled will rock so hard unless you're going 80 side by side and then nail it.
If Ride Blue kicks my butt I'll be down to see you.
You have a good reputation on this site so you must be doing something right.
In fact, if they do perform as expected, I should get a big discount for setting up the proving grounds. Ha Ha onlykidding. :)
Remember, at the end of the day we're all having fun out here!

Ok guys, can someone tell me if you can adjust your pilots while motor is running, the reason i ask is today i was looking for the damn screw and couldent even see it,what part of the carb is it on,now the carbs are on backwards compared to most 2-strokes,so it would be in front, when i take off the filters, right? Hi fredie, can you sell me or anyone larger pilot jets and larger mains too? I would like to have a collection on hand,is next step up the pilot line 22 or 22.5 from 17.5 and do you have 170 mains? Thanks pete Good luck boys on sunday w/otis and the drag strip, wish i could be there, but sled still apart and have to work, heading up to millinocket on the 15-18 club trip.

You can only do this if you have remote adjuster and not sure if they are available for the RX-1. The screws are on the bottom of the carbs beside the float bowls, you need to flip the carbs upside down to get at them.

This I'm afraid is a typical response, but I am also afraid that it is not correct. I am not rying to sound like a know-it-all, so please do not take it that way. I am just a very metodical thinker and try to put things in perspective as they would relate from the dyno data to real world data.

If your torque built as fast as your RPM's do, you would hit the throttle and get blown off the back of your sled. It would be similar to getting hit from behind by a tractor trailer. Although your RPM's climb in quickly, your torque climbs in extremely slowly compared to the RPM's. Imagine if you will, the amonut of time it takes for your RPM's to climb to or near peak. Now figure that 4000 RPM's is a normal engagement speed. At 4K you have 51.9 foot pounds of torque. You mash the throttle wide open and instantly within 20 feet your RPM's are climbing to peak running speed. You covered 20 feet literally in the blink of an eye. What this would mean if the torque climbed as fast as the RPM's is that in the blink of an eye, you went from 51.9 foot pounds of torque to 80! An approximate 30 foot pound of torque increase in that short duration of time is not possible with this engine regardless of wether it has my kit on it or not.

So, now we have your tach needle climbing like a windshield wiper blade, but make no mistake about it, the torque climbs in much slower. Also it is inconceivable to think that torque does not get generated until your sled moves. So cruising along at 80 MPH is not a good way to test this as gearing plays a big part. You need to go from the dig like dragracing. Ride blue should crush your sled because he makes the torque much, much quicker, and more of it than you do. The best part of this kit is even if we didn't make more peak power, we make what we have quicker and that is like getting a head start on the dragstrip. You simply reach power peak sooner in the run.

I have intentions of trying to get up to Otis on Sunday to test some other things. Ted Jannetty and I are testing with a wide band Ar/Fuel analyzer Saturday on the dyno. We will come to Otis with this information and some dynosheets to show you the detail that my dynamometer offers that cannot be had by a waterbrake or other brake style dynamometer.

I really want to come to Otis, but will have to play it by ear with regard to my schedule.

Freddie

SUPERTUNER, glad to see you're fooling with the wide band air/fuel sensor. I've used the old narrow band style on automobile engines and even with the limited range of that style, they really help shorten the amount of time it takes to dial in a carb. Great for use in the field or when you don't have access to a dyno to tune. Keep up the good work and keep us informed. Maybe it will help solve the babble problem that some people are having. It should also be mentioned that your filter kit provides a "fun factor" increase when trail riding and you keep getting on and off the throttle. Can you say "instant response". :D

Freddie, If you want to double the price on the dyno thats one thing  But I feel Ottis should give the kit back and wait in line like the rest of us

Freddie, put some miles on it today with 165 jets at 9 degree F. From the seat of the pants all I can say is it rocks ! Will have to line up with some fast guys I know that I was running heads up with before to see what the real difference is. Was pushing 120 mph on the speedo on loose snow with a stretched shorty (rail extentions and 136" x 1.1875" finger track on a 03 RX-1) geared down to 40T on bottom  It brought my under rev condition on launch to right on the money, hit at 9800 and climbed to 10500 with HH's loaded to 64.5grams, previously it would hit to 9800 then fall to 9400 before climbing back to 10,400 ! Very Impressed and gotta love the sound at WOT

Butch

Butch...I am afraid that there is a waiting list for these kits. I would love to be able to accomodate you but there have been folks waiting 2 weeks + at this point. I suggest that you order yours and get in line. I am filling orders pretty much every day. This list drops like crazy and climbs right back up within a few days but we are shipping product.

Freddie

Ok, I need some advice (again). I was merely running my sled up on the stand in the garage last night after several carb changes. The sled seemed to react quicly on the bottom end, suffer severely in the mid range and then act very responsive on the top end.
I had my fuel screws up from 1 1/4 to 2 turns. I have Yellow Holtzman springs in now (my silvers are here now but I haven't tried them yet). I went from 160 to 162.5 mains. Here's what I think is the problem. I dropped my needles back to the stock #3 position from one click richer than stock. Could the mid range be starved for fuel? I could see the powder filters being sucked tightly against the K&Ns when I reved it up so I removed them and had the same thing. Ideas? PB

Freddie see you Sunday maybe I can beat A couple orders

Give you my order on Sunday, Hopefully that will beat a couple people (Monday Morning rush) before they order.

Thanks Butch
