After two days of powder riding, suddenly the sled starts to bog on low rpms.

It bogs/ sputters on idle and 4-5000 rpms. At wot it runs fine.

While looking for the fault several mystical things happened.

Headlights turned on by themselves. Headlight relay clicks and buzzes. Headlight flashes, and brakelight is steady on. It stays on until i remove the SIG fuse. It does not matter if ignition is on or off.

At one point the fuel pump did no start, but no fault codes.

Ideas? I am in the mountains and need to get it figured out asap..

Seems like water and ice in the connectors between the oem harness and the MCX ecu caused the problem.

Got it cleaned up and it seems to have solved it. We'll see for sure on tomorrows ride.

I would advice anyone with a mcx kit to check this out, and use silicone on the connectors.

I promise you that water in there can cause alot of strange problems.

Have you done any wire splicing? I believe that's a ECU problem usually caused by a short or resistance change in wiring. Check your harness behind the Primary and see if it's rubbed on the casting nub. I've heard that this could even be from a internally fried battery. Check any splices not soldered that you have done. Good luck

I tried to disconnect the ecu on my backup sled. With the ignition on I got the ER 1 message. Same as the one that flashed on my turbo earlier today.

Does anyone know what the sound you hear when turning ignition on and off is? Not the fuel pump, but the other one that sounds like a valve?

I have not done any wiresplicing recently.

The problem started to occur after 2 days in bottomless pow.. Snow got in everywhere. Also its really cold outside so it freezes in an instant.

On todays ride I did some fault finding, and once i switched the load control relay my problems went away. For now atleast...

Your control relays are freezing up.

Take all of them out and bake them in a small oven at 120-140 degrees F or so for a few hours.
(Warm, almost too warm to touch for more than 20 seconds or so, but not hot enough to melt the plastic.)
You want to do this to dry them out.

They have gotten moisture in them and now it is freezing.
That is why your load control relay stuck on & made the lights stick on.
Most likely the same with your ER-1 code.
Your pod has power, but the ECU does not & the pod say "We have no communication".

A frozen stuck ON relay will make the switch not turn things off, like your lights.
A frozen stuck OFF relay will make things stay off, like your fuel pump.

Hope this helps!

Rock :-o

PS Bet your brakelight switch is frozen on also...

Thanks alot.

I got it going again yesterday. Took relays inside and dried them up. I also put a heater under the hood and put the cover on. After that I used electrospray inside all contacts (which also drives out moisture.)

I will take the relays out and put them in the oven like you suggested once i get the sled back home in the garage.

Im just so glad i got it running again. And it runs gooood!

Actually my riding buddy got the exact same engine bog today, and guess what - he also had moisture in the mcx ecu harness.

Dime, are those aftermarket relays? Huh ? ;)

Maybe the previous owner replaced them with some non OEM ones.. that would explain it ;)

I wish they where aftermarket. Maybe they would have worked in the winter too.

I will try to find a better aftermarket alternative.

That beeing said, I now have 12'000 kms om the sled, and I have only had the fuel injection relay freeze twice in that time.

So I guess its not that bad. Its cheaper to change a relay than to isoflex the crank bearings before each ride.

samesame

Just had a similar issue happen this weekend.
First thing, did you notice fuel consumption increase?
--I was using 30-40% more gas.. (but both carbides are shot now so maybe the increase gas is from not having runners? - not sure)

4-5k rpm bog, woot good! But it's hard to tell with power on because of all the noise and stuff
Anyways, didnt notice power loss.

I DO get code 84 regularily.

On the trail down, when throttling down for corners, she'd stay running (most times) but the throttle would not respond.
I'd pin'er and no reply! ... shut down motor, fire back up, and blastoff keep going down the trail until the next switchback.

Big difference tho is that dont seem to have any electrical issues with headlights etc...

Are these the relays you baked? I did notice one has some green corrosion on it.
