If you have ever looked inside it, you would just take it out.You could just secure the valve in the full open position instead of trying to take it out.

Yes, that would work, but I have the entire header loose for copper donut installation; it would be awful easy to just drill out the front hanger rivets, pull the header and remove the valve guts completely. By the looks of it, I don't think the valve guts can be removed with the header in the sled.You could just secure the valve in the full open position instead of trying to take it out.
If you remove the muffler, you can look forward through the pipe and see the valve. It's just a c-shaped, curved flap that center pivots inside the EXUP body. It appears that turning the notch on the pulley counter clockwise 90 degrees from the alignment hole, rotates the flap to the bottom for a full port exhaust flow. I've read posts where guys have done this and said they couldn't tell any difference in performance.

changing a $40 cable is a no brainer for me and a heck of a lot cheaper then going with the replacement header here in Canada. Exchange rate is just ridiculous.

As of right now, that's my plan. I already had the cables ordered anyways.changing a $40 cable is a no brainer for me and a heck of a lot cheaper then going with the replacement header here in Canada. Exchange rate is just ridiculous.
Next time the cables break, the valve guts are coming out. If my header ever cracks, then it's time for stainless.
This is the first and last time I repair the valve.

I will also say that changing my factory exhaust donuts at 6000 miles was a waste of time, as they looked brand new. I already had the copper, so they went in anyways.

Northern: I found the same thing on my 2011 Apex, the stock donuts seem to be made with a wire mesh embedded inside of them that holds up far better than previous versions on 06-10. I did find that one or two were starting to de-laminate away from the wire mesh, so I replaced with copper. The wire mesh had actually sunk a hatch/knurled pattern inside the flare of the titanium exup pipe, likely due to the kind of heat this joint sees. I buffed the knurled deformation off before installing the copper donuts.
The valve inside the exup chamber can come out simply by removing it from the side with the mounting screws if that is the way you plan to go next time. No need to remove from sled. I too experimented with valve out, and fabricated a 1/4"thick stainless steel close off plate to bolt over the opening using the stock gasket.
Oddly enough, my exup cables had never broke in 19,000kms, and it was one of the first 11's shipped into Canada.

Correct!! Big waste of time until the flanges crack on it.. happened at about 12000 miles.

At the rate I've been accumulating miles, it'll be another 3 - 4 years before I achieve 12K miles on this sled.Correct!! Big waste of time until the flanges crack on it.. happened at about 12000 miles.
I thought we were supposed to have more time the older we got?

I will let you know I gooped mine with never seize last season and going to take apart and check them here soon. I had one cable break at 6000 miles it looked like it was out of alignment because it was wearing on the side so I bent the mounting bracket over so it was aligned see if that helps. I would like to replace with stainless cables.I wonder if a good coating of Never Seize would help the cable last longer?

With all this cable problem with power valve talk its like I am on the 2 stroke forum when I had my 2000 SRX...
wouldn't removal or fixing the valve open change the airflow dynamics of the pipe and affect performance? I know there are some aftermarket headers that eliminate the EXUP valve but are designed that way. Just something to think about. Keep the post going.

I wonder if Hilex could make these cables in stainless? The custom, extended length throttle cable on my Apex was made by them.I would like to replace with stainless cables.
