Broken exup cable on 2011

ya i broke one of my bolts as well, ordered 2 more and will have to remove the other tonight. thank God it's easy enough to get too to remove it and rethread. i'm also going to add ant-sieze on everything because of the heat, cables, pully and bolts.

Would I notice if the cables were broken with out taking anything apart? What is the easiest way to check them?

an easy way to check is to remove the 2 bolts that hold the servo motor, then remove the 2 philips screws on the plastic cover. You can then cycle your key to see that both the cables keep tention when the motor rotates. This would indicate that the end of the cables are still attached to the exup pulley. This will not tell you the actual condition of your cables, or if you are still within adjustment, it will just tell you hat they are still attached.

agree. but also if you do the steps from the manual or the video and you activate it you should be able to tell when it completely opens and closes from the #'s on the lower screen of the dash pod as well. it should read 0 (i would think that's when it's closed) and then it goes back to open which is a higher #. can't remember if it closes first then opens but when the valve is fully open it shows 186 or higher. at least that's the #'s i was seeing before i noticed my cable was breaking. Like LIROUX mentioned that way you know it's operating but you won't knoiw if it's aligned or the condition of the cables. Not sure if you really need to remove the servo at all because you should be able to hear it cycling but it wouldn't be a bad idea jsut to make sure.

All you need to do is remove the cover on the servo motor. You can even start the sled and see it move. If a cable is broken it will have lots of slack. Cycling the EXUP with the cables out of adjustment can snap a cable. Better to check the hole position and cable tension before you cycle the valve.

Do you think the YES warranty would cover bad cables? I would think you should be able to get 3000, 4000 miles without these breaking.

Thanks guys for the info on cking the cables. I found that the cable mounted in the lower cable mount near the EXUP was wound up around the pulley inside the servo cover. After replacing and riding 100+ miles I real didn't notice any difference in performance. Should I?

I put 400+ miles on mine with the valve fixed in ten open position. Replaced the cables and can tell no discernible difference. If I have a problem with mine, i.e. the system breaks, I'll just figure a way to remove it. On a dyno it might show up, but my BUTT dyno will never feel the difference lol!

I placed the valve open and removed the cables on my 2009 Roadliner exhaust install. No notice with the exup valve not working with 118ci or 1900cc of power that's for sure. Once exup fails you can bet Ill be watching to see how it affects RPMS since ive got my eye on them every ride

The price on these cables are ridiculous! Over $50 CDN per cable? That's criminal! They should be $15-$20 max. I was just doing a test on my EXUP and a cable snapped off right at the end. This is a common problem as they are back ordered.

Has anybody come out with an EXUP delete kit yet? I contacted Hindle and they said they were trying to come out with something this fall, but they've been saying that for the last 2 years.

Buddy of mine had 6K on his XTX and was doing an exup adjustment check when he noticed his were almost shot!! Under warrenty still

I have been saying this for years......the EXUP doesn't do anything, wire it open and forget about it.

Broke my exup cable on my 2011 apex doing the valve adjustment procedure. The cable was really brittle at the valve end and snapped flush with the end boss. When I began the calibration sequence the servo motor pulled the valve fully clockwise and then heard a snap. I had not done any adjustments at this point. Just letting guys know that it happens I guess as they get older the cables can fail. Of course this happens the night before a planned trip.

Mine one cable rusted off at 6200 miles cant believe they were not made out of stainless steel because a magnet sticks to the inner cable.
