Ok guys my wife rides an 07 Phazer. Last season my wife would overheat when we would go on family rides, slow speeds. If I jump on the sled I can actually get the sled to cool down by burping the throttle and playing with it in the powder. My wife on the other hand believes in holding the throttle at 40-45mph and riding at that speed for sometime without speeding up or slowing down is fun. Um ok. Thus it overheats on her.
Should I look to install the fan behind the radiator since this is the way she rides????? How difficult is the fan to install and wire. Or should I be asking, "is it worth it?"

dox06, I have exactly the same situation with my wife and her 07 Phazer GT. I bought a fan and that took care of that.
While a number of users on this forum have reported receiving free fans, it is NOT a free upgrade. Those who received the fans from their dealers got them as a result of goodwill from their dealer.
That being said, ease of fan installation depends on whether you have a base model or the FX or GT model. Installation on the FX and GT models is pretty much plug and play. The base model requires installation of the fan wiring harness as well and can be a bit challenging.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but I hope it helps.

It is not an update but some dealers give them to you and some don't. I did get one because my sled was not under warranty any more but I tried my hardest.

Ok so then my goal is to hit up my buddys at each sled shop and see who is going to feel pitty for me and my wife's sled.
It is a Base FX model too. So that means I am going to fight with it a little more for the install??????
If I don't get the fan given to me, I think they are in the price range of 175.00 or so right.
Thanks guys

dox06, I would go to your dealer or another dealer in your area and explain to them very nicely that everytime you ride the sled it overheats. That every 20min you have to stop. That you cant ride it. It is a problem, both my 07 Phazers would overheat everytime unless it was like -20. I let my dealer Know he ran both vin #'s and made me aware that there were a few other updates that needed to be done. There is nothing wrong with stoping by your dealer first thing in the morning with a dozen doughnuts either. Kind of hard to shoot you down then. lol Also You can contact Yamaha customer service and again explain to them very nicely what is going on. I did it with a problem I had with one of their covers. They were extremly help full and they contacted my local dealer and told him to give me a new cover and submit my old one for warranty they would cover it. I spose the key is being nice. I also go to my dealer once a month and buy something, nothing big, maybe a sticker, tshirt, license plate frame. something around $10-20. I am on a first name basis with all the guys there they see me trying to help them out so they try to help me out. Trust me it works.

Fan kit is a must. Here in Ontario, I would boondock with my brother and had to stop because of my phazer overheating. Ever since I put the fan on, light never came on again, no matter how much i rode it. I once had no choice but to ride home in 15 degrees celcius, and it never ran hot. I'm so glad. Its worth every penny.

Being a base FX model if you cant get a dealer to get it you might want to try wiring one up yourself.Just be sure to use a fuse and relay.Otherwise you will need the entire wiring harness replaced to use factory fan. There is also used parts around by now.
