Finally got me a RX-1

After reading all what U guys talk about.. decided to get one.
My current sled is a 2000 black SRX which I finally got to be about perfect for me.
The newest one is 05 RX-1 ER in candy red.. man does it look sweet. Picked it up last night.. took it out today.
No more pulling that GD pull starter rope!!!

Couple questions..
Best way to start this thing up cold.
Today I put the choke on full.. fired it up.. then moved it over to the center.. runs rough. Couple times I'd turn it off and it would want to idle at 400 RPM or so so I'd move it back. Took quite a while before it would run on it's own. Stalled about 3 times. Was about 25F outside.

Hood fit/finish seems to be poor.. shifted to the left side half an inch vs the right side (as viewed from the seat).. they all like that?
I checked to make sure the hood was seated in the guides on the belly pan to make sure.

Fuel is down to one bar and the ! warning light is on.. is it on due to the fuel being low (gas pump icon is lit) or soemthign else? It's not blinking. Manual really doesn't say much about it.
Dealer told me it would go out when warm.. the coolant light did but not the warning light.. maybe he didn't know what he was talking about?

I'm sure the dealer set the suspension up to 'standard' settings and I haven't been underneath the thing to re-set it. Track seems to hook OK on snow, damn scary on ice. Doesn't transfer like my SRX does.. but I think I can adjust for that. Front end seems to skitter over smaller bumps.
I'm sure all this will go away once adjusted and the suspension is broke in.

Power is pretty smooth but stumbles occasionally. Gonna break it in before I beat on it. Then I'll start modifying it and really have some fun.

Congrats RunninRX1 the low fuel light is normal comes on at about 2 bars. My hood fits good but i have heard others with your same issue. No doubt with a few ajustments you'll get the sled to where you like it

1st as for the choke you should open it full start then claose 1/2 way for about 10 seconds then you should be able to close or come close for the next few seconds then close complete, as for the idling if you only have a small bit of fuel in it, it may only be running on two cylinders due to the fuel pickups in the tank are staggered, been der done dat twice, thought it was clogged jets, nope. Try putting another gallon in and see if it doesn't stop the problem in about 3 seconds of running. As for the lights, yes you are seeing low fuel condition this is correct you should see the gas icon and the amber triangle lit. As far as transfer goes your sled will pull wheelies with all the transfer you can get out of it, check the transfer rod that is the horizontal rod by the track, loosen the large keeper and spin the outer oneclockwise and you will increase transfer dramatically. For the hood sounds like you may have a hose or line keeping it from centering, or it could be that you can lock it down with the straps for a day or two and it will set its position, they will warp if you will from sitting but by locking down in the correct position it should come back to normal. I figured out the semi-hard starting issue with the thing.
Idle RPM when warm was only 900 RPM.. adjusted it to 1350'ish and it's MUCH better.
Still can't see why the hood is shifted over half an inch to the left.
Rode it around some more.. the stock ski's suck. Then again I'm used to my SRX with C&A Pro Race skis. Wonder if I can swap them?
Steering effort is much higher than my SRX.. normal?
I'm going to take the RX-1 over to the shop and go through everythign to see if the dealer set it up properly and stud it. Icy corners are a bit scary on it due to lack of traction.
I'm VERY impressed with the way it hooks in snow.
It's probably due to the stock clutching, but seems like a big delay in acceleration when hitting it. I've taken it to WOT a few times. When it comes on.. man.. talk about fun. I'll see 9500 or so RPM peak.. which after reading various threads is OK for now (I think). Not sure about 03/04 vs 05 and 'engine braking' but it doesn't seem excessive to me when I let off the throttle. I don't feel like I'm going over the bars or anything.
I cant say enough about this new skid. I have a viper skid in my SRX and it's damn near perfect. But the 05 mono shock is like comparing a Lexus to a F350 super duty Ford. Bumps? What bumps? Very impressed.
So far transfer is better than I had thought. Hammered it in some snow and it lifted the skis off the ground My SRX would never do that on loose snow.. just packed trails or a road.
I can't wait to break it in and mod it. I'll get a turbo this year for sure.. or maybe a blower (since I work with all the major blower manufactuers).

i too am coming off an srx......the one thing i realized from the two machines is the rx1 doesn't have to be driven as hard to accomplish the same thing as an srx. the suspension allows less effort. stop driving it like an srx and drive it like an rx1.it took me a while to adjust, when you do there's nothing better.i will say that there is more steering effort when you keep letting off the throttle,try keeping more throttle applied and then the nose wont come down as much, therefore reducing steering effort.i agree with icy corners...i have 101 studs in center and coming into an icy corner didn't have the same results as my srx......again its all adjusting to different machine......i will say that i was able to throw my srx around into corners and sliding into corners with the srx is easier, but again with rx1 you dont have to do that as much...............just my opinion

Does your RX-1 'vibrate' more than your SRX did?
Since I have never been on one before.. not sure if it's normal or not. You can feel it in the bars at idle and cruising. I get none of that one the SRX.. well.. maybe some at idle.

I had a 98 and a 2000 SRX, with a ZR800 and REV6 in between. The RX is smoother than all of them. While I used to think the SRX motor was the sweetest sound on the snow, I've all but forgotten it, now that I've tasted the RX1.

I would take it back to the dealer and tell him the things you mentioned. Have him go over the sled. That's what a warranty is all about. Everything you mentioned I haven't experienced with my new 05.

i think that you should drive the rx1 a little bit before bringing it in.yes i have a little vibration at idle. i think the srx was a little smoother, but the rx1 is definatly sweeter. you'll get used to it..................trust me

I took the thing out for another ride today.. definate vibration when moving. You can feel it in the bars. I talked to a buddy of mine last night who is thinking of gettign one and he rode one last year.. one thing he liked was the lack of any vibration in the bars.. couldn't feel a damn thing.
Since the dealer left greasy fingerprints all over my machine, I'm afriad they set soemthing up wrong.
When they take them out of the crate.. what does the dealer do to get the thing ready for customer pickup? I want to go over everything they had to do and make sure they did it right. This one was in a crate when they got it last week. I really don't trust these guys.
The vibration bothers me.
I haven't checked track tension or anything yet.
I also noticed the belt has made contact with the belt gaurd about half way between the clutches. Black witness mark.
Still can't see why the hood is shifted over.. the fuel pump was making contact with the hood so I moved that over some.. didn't change anything as far as fit. Front hinge looks good and even.
Clutch side side panel was not snapped into place in the rear.. put that back.. no change to hood alignment.
Idle RPM is not steady.. wanders around a bit when warmed up. Seems to miss often. Going to pull the plugs later today and look at them.

Sounds like someone may have dropped the damn thing, Yamaha doesn't build sleds that the hoods don't close correctly from the factory.

Pulled the plugs... fouled.
They had it running in the shop when I got there.. plus they drove it outside when I picked it up.
When I fired it up the next day.. had a hard time getting it to run properly. So possibly the idle miss and hesitation are due to the plugs. Going to go find some new ones.
I'll take some pix of the hood.
Vibration and the belt hitting the belt gaurd are still some concerns.
