Finger tight and the thrust washer

I would never set it tighter then 1.5 turns out, that tensioner is spring loaded and you preloading it to help set the spring and then actually are backing the tensioner bolt off completely. Its only there in case of the chain deflection is to great to not keep the chain engaged on the gears. If you hear whining then you will kill the bearings thats for sure.

The spec of 1.5 IMO is from the old rule book.....TCL and all.

I used to to 1 turn out, but now am at 3/4 turn out. I did this all while actually watching the chain and what is going on. Even at 1 turn out, the chain can touch the center post and grind alum in certain conditions. We have seen this many times. Possibly issues of not going into reverse have not affected mine at all at 3/4 turn out.

I tightened mine as hard as I could with fingers, before loosening.

Does your chain skip, what are you gaining running the chain so tight hard on bearings, bushings chain and gears the spring is designed to do the job

Ive run sleds since I was a kid with finger tight, then 1/4 turn out. That is 35-40 yrs...lol

Never had any issues, and that is where they always were spec'd.

Now, you take a Winder chaincase, and with stock 21/41 gears. Set it at 1.5 turns out, and see how the chain will hit center post when slacked. I have seen enough pics with center post worn by chain when set to 1.5 turns, to not want that to happen to mine.

Even at 1 turn out, the chain has a good amount of slack, and can touch that post in certain situations.

With 3/4 turn out, there is still a nice amount of tightness, not tight by any means, just perfect amt IMO of tightness and same as every other sled is setup.

I just believe that 1.5 spec is not current, and is best less. Many here run 1 turn out.

Not saying anyone needs to do what I'm doing, just showing how loose the chain is and how it can slap against post at spec in manual, wouldn't be first time manual spec is incorrect.

That spring will not hold anything under power. It isn't very strong. I assumed the spring was there just told hold everything together for installation purposes. I run mine tighter that 1.5 turns as well. It seems every sled that has chaincase problems has that nub inside the chaincase worn off completely. Too loose of a chain, and its probably not great to have alot of ground magnesium floating around in there.
