First Impressions - SR-Vipers

I don't see a point in buying a yamaha now if their just going to give AC their 4stroke tech. They're going to be the same sleds But AC will probably cost less.

"Arctic Cat initially entered into an agreement to purchase Yamaha 123cc 4-stroke engines for its youth snowmobile in 2009. This agreement has now been expanded to include select 4-stroke engines from Yamaha." from snowmobile.com

Personally I'm disappointed. Some of the reasons are the ones that you listed. The cat chassis is not the end of the world for me, I too like them. The lack of a mountain sled and a turbo are a real let down. But the biggest let down is I have heard the sled is going to be built in TRF.

So we have a cat chassis, built in TRF and no turbo. Or I could buy a AC ProClimb High Country Turbo which is a cat chassis, built in TRF with a Turbo. Is the Yamaha engine and clutching enough to win me over? I'm not sure.

What!?!?! Nytro got the "new" one last year and there was a turbo offered as well.

I wonder where EPS disappeared to?
My delaer told me that Yamaha plans a new sled every year for the next 3 years, so I'm sure it'll all come.

Looks like we get to wait a year for the lightweight brake rotor on the Cat 13's - saving 1/2 pound. . . predicted change on MY2015.

I'm disappointed. The main reason i have a yamaha is because of how reliable their sleds are and unless arctic cat fixed all the issues with the pro cross chassis since last year this sleds going to hurt yamahas reputation...

There is no issue with the chassis.......its a clutch and driveline issue.

What are the problems with the pro cross chassis? I have heard ZERO it was all engine and drivetrain related all of which is now yammie.

Where are the chassis failing?

All I meant was the issues arctic cat was having last winter like the chain case and fuel filters comeing lose on the turbos and if arctic cat is going to be building the viper I cant see it being a better sled than a pro cross. I'm just saying I don't want to buy a sled that will leave me stranded on the trails or be at the dealer for recalls. Hopefully I'm wrong though...

I agree... I have heard nothing about handling issues with this chassis. Just powertrain issues. In fact, my buddy has a AC 600 Cross Country Factory Race Sled, and when I rode it, i thought to myself, and told him as well, "if this sled had my Nytro motor in it, this would be one hell of a sled to have."

What's new for 2014, basically what I just said. Personally, I like it. I think it looks nice, I'm sure that there won't be any more reliability issues with this sled, over any other sled. Also, maybe Yamaha and Arctic Cat worked together on this chassis. Doesn't it seem a little ironic that the Nytro motor fit into that chassis pretty nicely? If Yamaha was involved in development, then you know it's going to be reliable. Arctic Cat's has always had a good handling, lightweight sled. Yamaha has always had a decent handling, durable, but heavier chassis. Why not combine the two? Reliable, lightweight, and good handling. Makes sense to me.

And the truth is, there are a lot of people already bashing this sled cause it's a Cat chassis. Really? Bashing it already? Read the Nytro forums... How many people on there are complaining about a-arm bushings, spindle bushings, ball joints, steering stem angle, darting, heavy steering, inside ski lift, suspension sag, skis, subframes, etc.... No one on here can tell me the Nytro is perfect out of the box. I doubt this sled is perfect right out of the box. I think people dont't like change, so they are being quick to throw stones.

All in all, good for Yamaha and Arctic Cat to team up. Maybe Yamaha can get back into sno-cross someday. They dominate in motocross now, why not be competitive on the sno-cross track as well? These 2 companies are #3 & #4 in overall snowmobile sales. Maybe with this partnership, they can move up a spot or two. Plus with today's economy, who can go out and dump $12,200+ on something that gets ridden a couple weeks a year? I sure as heck can't. If Yamaha would of developed an all new chassis on their own, then you might be looking at a price tag of close to $15,000.

Hell this Yamaha forum emoticon is already green!! :sled1:

Personally i see many positives of this joint venture and things can only go up from here...

The good:

10.6gal tank
129" track
amazing handling
centralized weight
front exhaust
yamaha clutches

The bad:
still heavy (but less noticeable)
Front exhaust
AC chaincase/reverse
Copy Cat "name calling"

You guys will love this combination. I had an 09 fx nytro and hated the handling on it. I traded this year for AC SNO PRO 1100 NA Limited and absolutely love the sled. The ride and the handling is amazing on it. I have had no issues with the drive line. I had a reverse issue but later found the connection was loose. Now I have around 2000 km on it. The only thing I wanted different was the nytro motor put in it. Now I some how have to talk the wife into it, and tell her she doesn't need a new sled this year.

Ski loop looks totally different than the Cat loop? I think it's going to be an awesome sled.

are we looking at a new sled that has taken the best from arctic cat and the best from Yamaha and handed it to us in one sled?
Take away all the bad stuff from yamaha and Arctic cat and left it on the bench.
Some please explane to me how this is bad for us riders-end users,
Might only be narvana.
I want one in Black Please.

I am also wondering if this is the start of the end of one of these brand names?
Unless Cat has something tottaly new and are dropping a yamaha engine in it whats going to be the big differance and need for a green Viper.

Are they screwing with our heads here??

I heard from a guy a few minutes ago that just got off one. He said it hauls the mail. That's all I need to hear...

My thoughts on Arctic Cat getting our Yamaha 4-stroke...

What has always set the Yamaha apart?? The motors! I ride Yamaha for that reason and the fact that it made them different. Now, Yamaha is seemingly giving the best part away...Makes me feel somewhat cheated out of the exclusivity we had with the Yamaha 4-stroke under the hood. Sure the "other" sleds were a bit lighter and arguably handled better..BUT...they couldn't have one of the best parts, the motor! Not any more :(

I'll get over it and hopefully this will make all of the sleds better in the long run.....just feeling a sense of loss. That said, I think the Viper looks awesome and looks like a great sled, just wish only us loyal Yamaha guys could get one...:)
