Had this happen to a 700 sx a few years back, eventually it wouldn't run at all.Dammit...just went out to garage and decided to pull it over just for the hell of it and it started like new no lights dimmed either WTF HERE WE GO...so what would cause this?

Don't know what the dealer fix was but I do know my 2002 SRX had a metal, riveted on cover or sleeve, that created a channel under the engine for the wiring harness to run through...don't know it the 2000s had that.
A lot of the wiring harness issues, on the SRXs, were at the nose of the sled where the harness bends as the hood is opened and closed.
If the sled acts up again you could try removing the white load relay that is located above the left footwell. Removing the relay removes all lighting loads ect on the stator.

Do an AC voltage test with it running. Usually if one third of the stator is faulty, the gauges or headlight will act up.So been out riding around today and wveything is running tip top...can i run a test on stator and will it show if its going bad..jyst need to know how to test

Another place to lok for wire chaffing is the footwells where the CDI is mounted.Do an AC voltage test with it running. Usually if one third of the stator is faulty, the gauges or headlight will act up.

18 year old microwave went up in smoke last night....lol...19 yrs. on the sled??? Awesome!! Hope you find the issue, but yeah, just replace the stator. Had one go on a Kohler twin sawmill motor...several electronic pto cub cadet units....insulation can only take so much heat over time.

It's been a few years ago.lol but I recall removing the motor because the harness goes in-between belly pan and motor base plate. Luckily the motor sets on stationary mounts on plate so alignment should not change. Harness rubs on the edge of the mounting plate on the rear usually. Not much room between belly pan. Not that bad of job though. Hope that fixes it. Good luck.how easy is it to pull harness?whats entailed ?carbs, muffler etc?

Lots of threads on this on the 2smoke site.

When my SRX rubbed through it was so bad I just cut all the wires and heat shrink and soldered them back together running harness right alongside motor instead of under it. First sign was Throttle Overide and then the Oil Light. Still have a new tank sensor that was not the issue. I was able to get a mirror and flashlight under there and could see some bare wires. Crushed between bellypan and motor.
