Ok! I just couldn't take it any more. I hate to see you guys spending alot of money on clutch kits when there is an easy fix to the over the handle bar problem when you let off the gas.

First let me tell you that this is my first Yamaha sled. (Apex ER) Came from a Ski Doo Rev 800. The apex is an awsome sled,Thumbs up to Yamaha ;)! I don't try to say i know it all but i'm very practical at most everything i do and try not to get to carried away with to much performance stuff unless it makes a big difference. Most of the time staying with stock stuff with alittle ajustment can be just as affective if not better and more reliable in the long run..

So anyway this is what i did give it a try i think you will be happy with the results.
Let your sled warm up, Take it for a quick ride and make sure it's off high idel when you get back. (At operating temp at idel) Now turn your idel up to 1600 rpms. The idel screw is located on the left side of the sled, use a regular screw driver through the hole in the side. You should see a black knob with a slit in it. Most road bikes idel at 1500 so there shouldn't be a problem with this idel on the yamaha apex. Now your sled will roll througt the tight corners much easier and more like a two stroke sled.

Next Tech comming soon.... How to blow your buddys apex away for less then $100 bucks.

Happy trails... :flag:

UPDATE- Try 1700 to 1800rpm at idel. Do you know this is the first year they added gear reduction to the 4cly engine on the apex models

Why is engine breaking a problem? If you use the thrtle right you don't need to use the brake.
I'll second Dirks question...............

I might give it a try. I think the engine brake is always there to some degree with the 4-stroke. However my Attak feels like it has more than my RX-1. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks APEXER1.

How does the idle affect the engine braking?? Mine idles between 1400 and 1500 and I don't see how 1600 would change anything?

BTW I like the engine braking also but was curious about idle thing!

he didnt say engine brakeing was a problem...he is giving what he believes is a no cost fix to engine brakeing if you dont like it.

I'm with Dirk too.

In 1200 miles I can roll through a stop sign now if I'm not watching myself!!!

Just break the sled in!!!!!!!

BR

is it just mine, when i let off the gas,the engine brakes a little then it releases and rolls until i hit the brake..do u guys know what im talking about

I am with Dirk too.

I prefer the engine braking. While it takes a bit of getting used too. Once you "learn to ride" with it, it is a big advantage IMHO. I am sure that I go through a turn faster as a result of the engine braking advantage. I motor deeper into the turn before having to dethrottle, and am back on the stick at the same place as I would be without the EB.

Watch your buddy buddies on there 2 strokers, they are off the stick WAY before your 4stroker.

I dont like the engine braking. I was on the fence for a bit but now after going back and forth on other sleds, I have decided that its better without it.
I'm guessing most of you like it because you have no choice. I realize this, but I'm still not liking it.

Ohhh yea thats it. And I tought it was because you can stay on the stick father into the turn, which at least in my experience has resulted in better speed thru the turn. But what the hell was I thinking, it nust have been beca=use I had NO choice.

The braking does take some getting use to........but I find it rather fun to dive into a corner...without NEEDING the brake...and then stabbing the throttle on the way out!! :D WHOO...WEE!!

I agree with you guys......I believe you can get through a corner faster....once the braking is mastered. ;)!

My opinion is based on riding and racing 4 stroke dirtbikes since the YZ400 came out in 98, and my second 4 stroke sled. I think the engine braking is an advantage, not a hinderance. Drive deeper into the corners, controlled oversteer situations, less need for brakes.
