Front diffy seal

Ok, next part to replace is the front differential seal, where the drive shaft enters. How much of a pain is it to unhook the drive shaft from the coupling that is connected to the pinion gear? I want to just remove the diffy, change the seal, and reinstall, but I am not sure how hard, if at all, it is to separate the drive shaft from the coupling,so I can get the center nut & washer out to remove the pinion half of the drive shaft coupling ? I hope I am getting my question across clearly.Any tips or tricks ? 02 660 Grizzly Thanks! Mike

Are you talking about the axles, or the drive shaft? I know the axles should pop right out, but not sure about the drive shaft.I am sure I will figure it out once I tear into it, but hoping for some advice on here first, while I wait for the new seal to arrive.

i have only replaced u-joints on a big bear front but the easyest way to do that is to stand the bike on rear end and remove the skid plate. the joint has to come out 1st before you can remove the nut/bolt for the yoke.

never had to do a front diff pinion seal but i have done the transfer case seal. not fun as the rear axle assmy has to come out so you can pull the transfercase to split it for replacing the seal.

If your replacing the front pinion seal I believe you need to unbolt the differential so that you can slide the drive shaft slip joint apart. I've never had to replace a front seal but I've taken the shaft apart when pulling the motor. Once the differential is loose you should be able to move it enough to pull the shaft apart. knock the front u joint apart and remove the pinion nut and yoke to get at the seal. It may be easier to just pull the diff and work on it out on the floor. Inspect the yoke seal surface for grooving and the pinion bearing for play. If you haven't replaced the diff lube, now would be a good time.

I have replaced the seal on mine. First you have to seperate the lower a-arm from the knuckle and pry the axles from the diff., unbolt the diff. and pop the driveshaft boot off, then the shaft slips right out of the diff. Not a bad job and saves you big bucks.

Thx huntergrizz, I hope it's as easy as you say.I ordered the seal, pinion nut, washer, and o-ring.As soon as it all comes in, I'll know more of how to tackle it.The simpler the better, I just wanna ride.If ya think of any other info or have any other tips, let me know!
