Fuel Pump going out?

Thanks

When I read this first I did not see the excellent pics and video not sure why.

Really great job.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with the reverse actuator not even turning at all. Took mine apart as shown in the pictures, and mine has a brass gear in place of the plastic as shown. Reverse worked fine when I parked the sled in spring, and no life at all when taking it out of storage and getting it ready for winter riding. Very strange that it would quit working over summer.

I experienced that around 6k while I was on a long trip. Freaked me out initially until I figured out it was the actuator. Had Yamaha replace it under the YES WARRANTY.
Excellent post BTW on reclocking the gear. Great stuff guys!!!!!!!!

Fuse?

Not a fuse as I purchased a new actuator and reverse now works perfectly. I'm still wondering if there is any way to repair or test a faulty actuator.

You test it by plugging it in and hit reverse. Should turn. If not take it apart. Have seen shaft worm gear is on poke through housing. Cant fix that. Have also seen a magnet fall out of place. Can fix that with SuperGlue! No guarantee it will last but will save it for a while for sure.

An update . . . I took the reverse actuator motor apart, cleaned the armature by lightly sanding the area that was blackened by the brushes. I reassembled the unit, and it now turns freely when applying 12V power. Reverses direction when changing polarity. All is now good with my actuator, so I guess I have a spare. Something to check.

I have mine off and almost apart right now. Mine is a year old and won't shift into reverse. It sounds like its trying to shift out of reverse but not nearly the same sound shifting into reverse. I have the housing off and I want to know if I'm safe to just pull the armature off, clean, and slide back in?

Yes. Of course be careful of the brushes. Last one that went on mine it seemed to just go tight. In motor itself.

I took it out, cleaned and reinstalled, and still can't get to reverse. I tested the actuator with a 12v supply both directions. I can manually put the sled into reverse but it won't shift with the actuator. If I pop the cover off, it only seems to rotate a little less than 90°. Doesnt seem right to me, I figure the full shift is closer to 160° ? Any chance the gear position sensor is the culprit?

Aaarrrgh!! Its fixed and I dont know how! Since I last had the actuator off to top up the chaincase oil, I've put over 1200km on the sled and reverse worked fine. Last time I went to unload at home it didn't. So I messed with it today for a couple of hours. Honestly, the only thing that I physically changed was the routing of the wire harness for the gear position sensor. I've been running it behind the actuator, and after looking online I noticed that Cat says to put it over the actuator. Working on it, trying to test the actuator, the reverse switch, I started to suspect the position sensor. Maybe I've wrecked a wire in the harness. Reverse is now working...
I don't want to be negative, I love this sled! Some of the design though...
