07 Yamaha Apex RTX
Hey everyone,

So here's the situation. I have an 07 Apex RTX and I'm getting no fuel pump when I turn the key.

Now I bought this sled new back in 07 and have done all of my own maintenance since purchased. I've just replaced the fuel pump solenoid by your left foot and also cleaned and grease packed the plug point under the airbox (some corrosion but really not bad enough that it would seem to lose connectivity) but I cleaned and packed it anyway.

Either way I've got it all back together and still nothing. The original solenoid was just clicking and obviously with the newer style there is no clicking so I swapped the solenoids around both of the other older style ones just click when connected to the fuel pump line.

I'm usually pretty constant with starting the sled over the summer and had no issues up through October. I didn't get a chance in September and when I went to give it a go last month I ran into this and am still fighting it. The sled cranks fine and all other 'normal' lights and gauges are working fine.

Am I missing another contact point?

If the solenoid is clicking it means it must be getting power.
I would check the fuel pump wiring connection right at the tank and if its OK I would say you need a fuel pump.
A friend of mine with a relatively high mileage 2013 Apex had to replace his last year after storage as well.

Check the wires under the tank cover. Mice love to nest there and chew the wires.

Thanks for the tips guys, I popped off the seat and checked the plug/wires. Nothing, everything looks and feels fine. My tester was being difficult but it was showing power to the plug when the ignition was turned on. My storage place is usually pretty free of mice which is not to say that that isn't a possibility but I'm not seeing any signs of mice anywhere on the sled. Is there a way to check the fuel pump or is it just a when its gone its gone part? IF so, anyone have any tips on changing it out? Thanks again

You said the solenoid was clicking, but with the new style it doesn't. Are you referring to the relay? If so, swap an old-style one back in to verify it's clicking when you turn the key on. Might help you determine where the issue is.

Yea, Sorry about that. The relay was clicking which made me think that was the culprit. As I said I put in a new (red) relay which my understanding is solid and not mechanical and shouldn't click. I also cleaned the connector plug under the airbox. I swapped the new relay to another older style next to it and I still get the clicking...and now I have no idea other than it possibly being a bad fuel pump which after 10 years doesn't seem like a huge surprise.

I appreciate all the help so far, I've always been able to do my own work and I am really trying hard to avoid the maintenance bill from a dealer if possible.

Hi Mapex27, same thing happened to me last year, the only year I stored my apex with an empty tank, apparently they can dry out if you do not have at least 1/3rd of a tank of gas. Very easy to change out (just expensive as hell), make sure you are under 1/3 tank of gas, take fuel line clamp off, fuel line off, unplug electric line off the pump, undo the 6 crown nuts and pull straight out. I tried for days socking and cleaning but to no avail, finally decided it is pretty important item and as I ride for 3 days at a time didn't want to get stuck some were, bit the bullet and told the wife she was getting a brand new apex fuel pump for Christmas. She wasn't happy but I was. I was able to get 14,000 miles on original pump.

Alright so here I am...annoyed and stinking like gas....I've replaced the relay's, cleaned and reassembled the plug connection under the airbox and now just replaced the fuel pump....still I get nothing. Swapping the relay to the older style I still get the click but I get nothing from the fuel pump...

What am I missing?

Well i'm no mechanic by any means but I would check your fuse box, there may be 2 fuses for your fuel pump and relay and one of them is burnt, still giving you voltage but not enough to run the pump, that's why your relay is clicking, just a thought

Hope this helps but check your grounds. Also bad grounds can burn out computers on vehicles. Not sure if there is a computer involved in this. Try wiggling any connectors involved in this circuit.

Do you have a spare starter relay to try?check starter relay for corrosion this feeds power to the pump also

Follow the wire from pump back towards relay. There is a block of wires that bundle together, looks like a connector but it just brings multiple wires and ties them together. I had same symptoms and one of those wires was not conducting. When i found the one not conducting, I just ran a new wire in its place. Fixed the issue.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

I'm going to give it the old college try again either tonight or tomorrow morning. I'll double check all my fuses and follow the wires. I'm hoping I'm just missing or maybe missed something before and it's a quick fix. Holiday season isn't a good time to "apply" for maintenance money from the boss ;)

Hey everyone,

Thanks again for all the help but I'm in need of a little more...

So before I was getting no fuel pump but the sled was turning over fine.

I ended up discovering that the fuel fuse located on the starter relay under the airbag was broken and I couldn't get it out so I just ordered a new starter relay. Now here's my issue...

I've got it all back together and the fuel pump kicks right on but now I'm not getting the starter turning over the motor. No clicking or anything just nothing...what have I done now?

Thanks again and happy holidays...hopefully some day I'll be back on the train and can buy some of you guys a beer for all the help...

Did you purchase the exact same relay from Yamaha?
