I know Yamaha says we can run on regular and lose 4 HP.... but what is the actual gas requirement for the G80?
Anyone else notice that Venture Lite says it requires Premium where as the GT says it requires Regular:

this has to be a mistake, cause they share the same motor, you would think that it would be the opposite though

I thought I read that they required premium fuel but would run on 87 with the 4 hp loss. This would have to be for all the models I would think.

My dealer told me 91 octane otherwise you will lose 4hp with 87. My manual and sticker on my sled say 91. I am gonna run 93 like I did in any sled. I am even thinking about mixing 101 octane race fuel. There should be some performance gains from it.

91 is what the manual states, and the manual is for all 4 modesl

Actually Yamaha does not say we can run regular. I spoke with someone from Yamaha at length about this. It states in Owner's manual and on a decal on the unit that premium fuel is required. The KCS is designed to protect against accidental use of low octane or bad gas, not to let someone use regular as an option.

Here is what the manual states regarding fuel:cliff notes version
Engine is designed to run on pump octane 91 or higher.
If the recommended fuel is not used, the engine may not perform as it should.
Oxyengenated Fuels can be used, with a maximum of 5% ethanol, richer jetting may be required to prevent engine damage.
Gasoline containing methanol is not recommended at all.

How are you supposed to jet injection richer?

Was thinking the same thing.
Im all for running premium when you have access to it, especially when conditions or riding style (High RPM, WOT) calls for it. But if I can get away with regular if Im doing lite riding or if premium is 20% more expensive why not?
A little more investigating shows Regular is only shown under the GT. If it is a mistake... fine, but I wonder if its not a marketing gimmic to show us gas miser touring guys that we can get away with Regular.

Here is another question then. Here in NJ all the gas pumps say 10% ethanol. Can I assume correctly that most of the US is now using 10% ethanol?

I know that most of Wisconsin is all 10%. Last year the few places that you could get "normal" gas went to ethanol blended. What is Yamaha's stance on 10% ethanol?

I run Shell gas when I can. It is 100% gas, no ethanal. It is a Top Tier gasoline.

Same here in the good old corn state of Minnesota, 10% ethanol that is. I read about a year or so ago that our Governor wanted to make the standard 20% ethanol, but to my knowledge we still only have 10%.
